Aqualyx is a non-surgical, injectable treatment designed to dissolve stubborn localized fat deposits
It is commonly used for body contouring on areas such as the chin, thighs, abdomen, and love handles.
Mechanism of Action (MOA)
Active Ingredient: The primary active ingredient is deoxycholic acid, a bile acid naturally present in the human body that aids in the digestion and absorption of dietary fat.
Adipocytolysis: When injected into subcutaneous fat, Aqualyx causes the fat cell walls to become unstable and break down, a process known as adipocytolysis or "lipolysis".
Cell Destruction: The solution increases the permeability of the fat cell membrane, causing the cells to "balloon" and rupture.
Natural Elimination: Once the fat cells are destroyed, the released fatty acids are metabolized and eliminated naturally through the body's lymphatic system over several weeks.
Permanent Results: Since the treated fat cells are destroyed and removed, the results are considered permanent, provided the patient maintains a stable weight.
