Seeing is understanding.
A field visit to the Philippines’ aquaculture and livestock sectors revealed real strategies in action—connecting climate change, AMR, and antimicrobial use. It’s a critical step in understanding how risks are managed and what still needs to be done.

Our field visits to BFAR Region 4A and UPLB Dairy Training and Research Institute gave international experts a firsthand look at the climate-AMR challenges facing the Philippines’ aquaculture and livestock sectors.

It wasn’t just about data and diagnostics—it was about dialogue, shared learning, and building connections. From insightful conversations to lively bus rides, this day reminded us that collaboration thrives when people come together with purpose and heart.

🌍 Climate impacts go beyond averages.
At the , Dr. Sunday reminded us that while floods and droughts are natural, it's their increasing frequency that signals a changing climate.

📉 Meanwhile, focusing only on average temperatures hides the real story.
🐄 Shifts in minimum temperatures—especially in colder regions—can affect livestock digestion and feed efficiency, impacting production and food systems.

Climate change isn't just about heat—it's about variability that affects every level of our food chain.

We have promising technologies to tackle both climate change and antimicrobial resistance—but most haven’t been tested or scaled.

💡 It’s not enough to innovate. We need solid evidence, strong training, smarter funding, and regional collaboration, especially across low- and middle-income countries.

📖 These insights come from our ICARS-funded scoping review on climate-smart innovations for AMR control in livestock and aquaculture.

Preventing disease is the first line of defense.

One Health must be more than a buzzword—it needs real collaboration across sectors. For aquaculture in the Philippines, that means understanding how antimicrobials are used on farms and making disease prevention a national priority.

Let's highlight a hidden climate story:
How rising temperatures and changing seasons are driving disease and antibiotic use in our food production systems.

At the recent AGE Meeting hosted by ACRI and ICARS, researchers and policymakers came together to connect the dots between climate change and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in LMICs.

💰 Want people to adopt better antimicrobial practices?
Show them the cost—and the savings.
Strong science needs strong economics to make a lasting impact.

Environmental group EcoWaste Coalition and the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health’s Center for Research and Innovation (ACRI) have called on schools to promote chemical safety and zero-waste practices during this year’s Brigada Eskwela.

In a statement on Monday, EcoWaste and ACRI expressed support for the Department of Education’s nationwide school clean-up and repair initiative and called for greater awareness of the potential health risks posed by harmful chemicals and waste in and around school premises.

Climate change isn’t just an environmental crisis—it’s fueling the rise of drug-resistant infections.
In vulnerable farming systems, extreme heat, floods, and drought increase disease and antibiotic use, feeding a dangerous cycle of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

🌱 This , let’s remember: protecting ecosystems also protects public health.
It’s time for integrated climate and AMR solutions that break the loop before it’s too late.

📖 This post is based on findings from our ICARS-funded scoping review on climate change and AMR in livestock and aquaculture systems.
