Vaccines don’t just prevent illness — they help slow antimicrobial resistance (AMR). 🦠💉

Last November 28, ACRI and the Valenzuela City Health Office brought this message to the community through an immunization drive that vaccinated over a hundred senior citizens and launched a city-wide AMR awareness campaign.

By pairing routine adult vaccination with clear, accessible AMR education, the initiative shows how prevention can reduce unnecessary antibiotic use and protect those most at risk.

AMR is a global threat, and local action like this remains essential long after the campaign week is over.

How vaccines help fight antimicrobial resistance (AMR) 💉

When people get the flu or pneumonia, they often need antimicrobials to recover. But when antimicrobials are used too much, they stop working—this is called antimicrobial resistance or AMR.

The solution? Prevention through vaccination. When we prevent disease, we don't need antimicrobials in the first place.

Last November 28, ACRI worked with Valenzuela City Health Office, ICARS, and IVI to share this message with senior citizens in Barangay Malinta. We provided AMR awareness sessions and free flu and pneumococcal vaccines.

Preventing disease today = antimicrobials that work tomorrow.

Our event, “Lead-free Ka Na Ba?! Safe Today, Strong Tomorrow!”, turned the ASMPH lobby into a hub of learning, testing, and advocacy. Students and faculty brought in their everyday items for lead testing using XRF technology, discovered surprising insights about hidden lead sources, and pledged to make safer, more informed choices.

Beyond the fun and interactive booth, this initiative amplified a crucial message — there’s no safe level of lead exposure. Together, we proved that awareness, action, and community engagement can spark real change toward a safer, stronger tomorrow. 🌍💙
