Some skin conditions appear right at birth 👶🧬

Not all newborn rashes are simple, some rare genetic skin disorders need urgent specialist care.

One example is Harlequin Ichthyosis, a serious condition where babies may be born with thick, tight skin and deep cracks. Early hospital care is essential for hydration, infection prevention, and overall support 🤍.

If something seems unusual with your newborn’s skin, trust your instincts 💛 — seeking early evaluation can save lives.

Living with EB — Strength Through Care 💪🦋

Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is a rare genetic condition that causes fragile, blister-prone skin. While daily care is key, teens can still live confidently and enjoy life.

🧴 Be kind to your skin: Use mild cleansers, pat dry gently, and protect wounds with soft non-sticky dressings.
👕 Choose comfort over friction: Soft, loose, seamless clothing reduces rubbing and keeps skin cool.
🏊‍♀️ Stay active safely: Gentle activities like swimming or low-impact exercise support strength and wellbeing. Avoid high-friction movements that may trigger blisters.
💬 Confidence grows with support: Connect with others, share experiences, and learn coping strategies — resilience matters more than perfection.

Skin traits can run in families—babies included 👶

Some uncommon skin characteristics may appear in more than one generation. By observing your baby’s skin weekly 📝, tracking family traits 👪 and comparing photos over time 🔍, you give pediatric dermatologists a clearer picture of inherited clues.

Family insights help doctors better understand uncommon baby skin changes and guide early evaluation 🧬✨

🧬 National Rare Disease Week (NRDW) is observed every 4th week of February in the Philippines under Proclamation No. 1989 and RA 10747.

Rare diseases affect fewer than 1 in 20,000 Filipinos. Some rare conditions show visible signs on a child’s skin.🔎

Because they are uncommon and often genetic, they may be misunderstood or overlooked. Recognizing unusual or persistent skin changes and seeking proper evaluation can help families receive the clarity and support they need.

Let’s continue raising awareness and strengthening recognition. 💜

Did you know? 🤔
Some insect bites 🐜🦟 can trigger reactions that look like skin allergies—red patches, itchy bumps or swelling on your child’s skin.

Watch how it appears and where it shows up, and if it spreads or doesn’t improve after a few days, it’s best to check with a pediatric dermatologist 🩺

☀️ Keep & Skip: Baby Skin Care (Tropical Edition)
As temperatures rise, baby skin needs a few small adjustments. Heat + humidity can easily trigger irritation, especially in skin folds and pressure areas.

🟢 Keep
💧 Air-dry skin folds before dressing — prevents rashes in neck armpits & groin
🧴 Use light, lotion-type moisturizers — reduces sweat trapping
✂️ Trim thick hair around nape — lowers sweat retention
🛌 Rotate sleep positions slightly (safe & supervised) — avoids moisture buildup

🔴 Skip
🚫 Let drool or milk air-dry — aggravates skin faster
🚫 Tight swaddling during daytime naps — overheating risk
🚫 Powder to control sweat — can cake in folds
🚫 Applying "cooling" products — mentholated items can irritate

Small adjustments can help prevent heat-related rashes this season. 🌡️👶

🧼 Myth vs Fact: “More soap = cleaner skin” ❌

Over-washing strips natural oils and can trigger dryness, redness, or rashes.
✔️ Stick to gentle cleansers
✔️ Use lukewarm water
✔️ Pat dry instead of rubbing
Simple, mild care protects the skin’s natural barrier while keeping it clean
