Thank you, Senator Kiko Pangilinan, for braving the rains and floods yesterday to join us!

As this year's commencement speaker, Senator Kiko did more than mark the occasion—he challenged and inspired the graduating class. His message served as a reminder of the responsibility that comes with an Ateneo education and the call to meaningful leadership.

The hope is that these future Filipino doctors will carry forward the commitment to do no harm, to do good, and ultimately, to be GREAT—touching lives, saving lives, and making an impact that endures for generations to come.

Maraming salamat, Senator Kiko, for leaving us with words we will carry for a lifetime. 🙌🎓

From her first days of uncertainty in ASMPH, to graduating as Valedictorian of the Class of 2025, Nadine Chua Lim’s journey is a story of growth, gratitude, and service.

Shaped by friendships that lightened the toughest days of a dual degree program, leadership that became her safe space, and community work that grounded her in compassion, Nadine embodies what ASMPH hopes for every graduate: outstanding clinicians, dynamic leaders, and social catalysts.

On August 4, Dr Alfredo R A Bengzon—founder and first dean of the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health—was recognized as the 52nd recipient of the ceremonial folded flag at the Stop and Salute Flag Raising Ceremony in Luneta.

Colleagues and friends from the Ateneo community were present to pay tribute to a visionary who paved the way for ASMPH and helped establish it as a transformative force in Philippine medical education.

And just like that, the first two weeks of the Transition Module for our incoming YL5 students have come to a close.

Led by Dr Olive Lazo, Dr Paulo Lumicao, and Dr Cherry Bernardo-Lazaro — and thoughtfully coordinated by Dr Isabel Fernandez — the Management and Public Health Submodules laid the foundation for a mindset of leadership, systems thinking, and service. Students also heard from upperclassmen and alumni who gave a glimpse into the many paths where medicine, management, and public health meet.

Day 1: ASMPH YL5 Transition Module

We welcome our incoming Year Level 5 students to the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health.

The Transition Module is a 3-week bridge program designed to orient students to ASMPH as a Jesuit institution and prepare them for the challenges of graduate-level medical and management education. It also introduces them to the ASMPH student life and support systems—because they won’t be doing this alone.

Students were welcomed by Dr Dodie Alfonso (Dean), Dr Obet Tanchanco (Associate Dean), Dr Marlu Vilches (VP for Higher Education), along with a video message from Fr Bobby Yap SJ, President of Ateneo de Manila University.

This is just the beginning. Over the next three weeks, we hope they begin to understand what it means to be part of ASMPH—where medicine, management, and public health come together, and where the work of shaping better health systems begins.
