Obesity Prevention Awareness Week is celebrated every first week of September, as declared by Presidential Proclamation No. 162 in 1999.
Obesity is one of the most life-threatening conditions that can cause chronic diseases such as heart disease and Type 2 Diabetes.
We love to eat, but be mindful of our food intake. Excessive consumption of foods high in sugar, fats, and salt plus an unhealthy lifestyle, BOOM! You are just making your life shorter.
To prevent these non-communicable diseases, we must practice these simple steps:
โ
Exercise regularly. It improves heart and lung health, leading to reduced risks of heart disease, stroke, and certain cancers.
โ
Monitor your Body Mass Index (BMI) and your waist circumference. A normal or "healthy" BMI for both adult males and females can range from 18.5 to 24.9.
โ
Sleep at least 7-12 hours every day. With enough sleep, it enhances our physical health by boosting our immune system and reducing the risk of chronic conditions and other lifestyle-related diseases.
โ
Follow the Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos.
Eat healthy, live healthy!
