On the celebration of the 23rd Anniversary of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) held last July 4, 2025, the DOH Treatment and Rehabilitation Center – Bataan was honored with an award for its unwavering support and valuable partnership in the campaign for a safe and drug-free community. This year’s celebration carried the theme, “Matatag na PDEA! Sa Bagong Pilipinas, Pamayanan ay Ligtas.”

We take pride in sharing that two Treatment and Rehabilitation Centers (TRCs) in the country have been recognized as local counterparts of PDEA — TRC Bicutan and TRC Bataan. This recognition affirms our unwavering commitment to recovery, reintegration, and public safety through strong inter-agency collaboration.

The Department of Health – Treatment and Rehabilitation Center Bataan (DOH-TRC Bataan) joined the global observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT) on June 26, 2025, through a Facebook Live program centered on this year’s theme: “The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention – Break the Cycle.”

The online event, which reached 3,287 viewers during its live broadcast, featured Dr. Joseph M. Quan, OIC-Chief Health Program Officer of the Outpatient and Aftercare Division, who delivered a comprehensive presentation on drug addiction—its causes, consequences, and most importantly, strategies for prevention.

A highlight of the program was the heartfelt testimony of Mr. Mark Joseph Tejomes, a former resident of TRCB and now a dedicated volunteer. He courageously shared his personal journey—from the circumstances that led to his substance use, through his rehabilitation process, and the valuable lessons he learned. His story served as a powerful reminder of hope, resilience, and the possibility of recovery.

The program concluded with a dynamic question-and-answer session, moderated by Mr. Ralph Paolo Asuncion. A panel of experts—Dr. Joel M. De Leon (Chief Health Program Officer of the Residential/Inpatient Treatment Division), Dr. Joseph M. Quan, Ms. Elvira P. Balao (Social Welfare Officer III) Mr. Wilfredo C. Quijano, Jr. (Senior Health Program Officer), and Mr. Angelo A. Bernardino (Senior Health Program Officer)—responded to questions from online viewers. Simultaneously, the center’s Advocacy Team, led by Ms. Sylvia Z. Banzon, was on-site at Tomas del Rosario College to conduct interactive discussions with students, fostering awareness at the grassroots level.

𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 – 𝐃𝐎𝐇 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 - 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐝𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐬.

The center pioneered its advocacy through training, by leading an orientation for young trainees from the BPSU College of Social and Behavioral Sciences last June 9, 2025, to equip the students with effective skills in test administration and scoring necessary for a successful psychological assessment.

Furthermore, their basic understanding of addiction and Therapeutic Community, which remains as the backbone of the program, was established through an interactive discussion facilitated by the center’s experts, spearheaded by Chief of Hospital III, Dr. Elizabeth P. Serrano.

With one vision, two institutions united; creating future mental health professionals with the heart of serving the people who crave change and recovery.
