A Graceful Visit from Our Lady of Peñafrancia
August 1, 2025 | BMC Department of Psychiatry

We were deeply blessed and honored to welcome the image of Our Lady of Peñafrancia (Ina) and El Divino Rostro into our department as part of the traditional sungko organized by the Cadlan Pastoral Council.

The day began with a Holy Mass, setting a reverent tone for Ina’s visit. Throughout the morning, representatives from different hospital services led the Holy Rosary and prayer vigils, offering their time and intentions in quiet reflection and shared devotion.

We are grateful to everyone who participated — especially those who led prayers, coordinated the rotation, and offered support behind the scenes.

Moments like these remind us of the power of faith and unity in healing not just the mind and body, but also the soul.

Just last week, the 20th Summer Youth Camp 2025 gathered young leaders from all over Pili, Camarines Sur in a meaningful and fun-filled experience held from June 7–10 at Tinangis Elementary School!

Organized by the Local Government Unit of Pili, headed by Mayor Tomas P. Bongalonta Jr., through the Local Youth Development Office, in partnership with the SK Federation of Pili, Camarines Sur, this year’s camp carried the theme:
“Resilient and Environment-Conscious Youth: Advocating Health, Education, Agri-Entrepreneurial Growth, and Anti-Drug & Crime-Free Nation Building.” 🌱📚🌾🕊️

One of the highlights of the camp was a talk on mental health delivered by Dr. Karen Idaño, who emphasized the importance of self-care, emotional resilience, and reaching out for support—crucial messages for today’s youth. 🧠💬💚

Kudos to all campers, organizers, and facilitators for making this camp not just fun, but truly empowering. Here’s to nurturing mentally healthy and socially responsible young leaders! 💪✨

Last June 9, we had the honor of welcoming the Professional Regulatory Board of Psychology for their official inspection and monitoring visit.

Our department proudly hosted the inspection team composed of Hon. Hector Perez (Board Member, PRB of/for Psychology), Mr. Christian Briones, and Mr. John Mark Horubia.

It was a productive exchange of insights and a reaffirmation of our commitment to excellence in psychiatric training and mental health care. Thank you to our guests and all department members who helped ensure the success of this visit. 🧠💼💙

ICYMI: MSO Got Talent 2025 was held last June 7 during the Medical Staff Organization (MSO) Acquaintance Party, in collaboration with the Resident Physicians Organization (RPO) — and what a night it was!

The Department of Psychiatry went head-to-head with nine other departments in a fun and competitive showcase of creativity and talent. With the special participation of our very own Dr. Edessa Parde-Laguidao (Department Chair), Dr. Olivia Inoturan (Training Officer), and Dr. Ellaine Romano (Assistant Training Officer) — who rehearsed last minute but still pulled off a great performance — the team delivered a heartfelt and hilarious skit set in a psychiatric OPD, followed by a high-energy medley of BINI songs. 🎭🎶💃

Thanks to the energy, teamwork, and crowd support, the Department of Psychiatry proudly bagged 2nd Runner Up! 🏆💙

On November 21, 2024, the 10th Bicol Mental Health Convention brought together experts and enthusiasts at the Legazpi Convention Center under the theme, “It’s Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace.” Esteemed doctors from our institution took the spotlight, engaging the audience with their insights on crucial mental health topics.

Dr. Froilan Ace Geronimo, a General and Adult Psychiatrist, captivated attendees with his talk on “Understanding Depression, Anxiety, and Stress: The Leading Workplace Health Concerns.” In a compelling follow-up, Dr. Edessa Parde-Laguidao, Head of the BMC Psychiatry Department, delivered valuable updates on the “Advance Comprehensive Care (ACC) Health Facility on Mental Health” and the latest developments from the BMC Psychiatry Department.

Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, the BMC Psychiatry team set up an informative booth, showcasing the department’s services and commitment to mental wellness.
