Want to know what is a reclining wheelchair?

A reclining wheelchair is a wheelchair whose backrest (and often footrests) can be tilted back — sometimes up to horizontal — to let the user lie back rather than sit upright.

This adjustability can offer better comfort, pressure-relief, and postural support, especially for people who can’t sit upright for long, spend long hours seated, or need to relieve pressure on hips/back.

Reclining wheelchairs often come with additional features like elevating footrests, padded headrests, detachable armrests, and wide or supportive cushions — helpful for long-term use or for users with reduced mobility.

On the downside — compared to a standard wheelchair — reclining wheelchairs tend to be heavier and bulkier, so they aren’t always easy to transport.

Because of these tradeoffs, a reclining wheelchair is often used when comfort and posture/health support are priorities (e.g. for long hours, bedridden users, or severe mobility limitations), rather than for frequent independent moving around.
