A toxic Filipino trait that in a way simply encourages you do or accomplish something and tests your ability even if you yourself can't guarantee you can really do it. Some people say this to somehow show support and uplift you, but most people tend to say this just because they are not in your shoes. They don't know the pressure and stress this might cause you for putting you on the spot especially out of your comfort zone. These words are positive to hear only if you believe you can meet their expection and manage to really attain it. This is like encouraging you to do your best but if you fail to do it, "it's all on you".

EXAMPLE OF TOXIC FILIPINO CULTURE

(CRAB MENTALITY )

Is an example of toxic Filipino culture that many of us experienced. It is a waste of doing things that don't benefit us therefore, focusing on oneself and helping others' would make our environment be in a healthy situation.Open your mind and be better 😊

"Noong panahon namin..."
(During our time...)

Is an example of toxic Filipino trait that many people is comparing one generation to another (younger generation) that are weak and nothing to compared to what they experienced is worse and we are being sensitive yet we're living in a decent and high-tech generation.

Some people are insensitive and with a thought by saying "noong panahon namin..." and comparing today's situation to make it a motivation in life, but the truth is they are making it worse and it is invalidating.

You can motivate and cheer someone by not comparing and degradating them.

EXAMPLE OF TOXIC FILIPINO CULTURE

EXCESSIVE "UTANG NA LOOB"

The toxic culture of owing/ "utang na loob". Even after all the things you achieve, people would eventually look down at you, when in fact it was you who struggled and persevered and crawled out of the misery of the past. Utang na loob is the most toxic and disgusting trait of Filipino Culture in Filipino families. The problem is WEAPONIZING "utang na loob." knowing there is something better and advocating for it should never be a cause for concern about one's character. For many generation "Utang na Loob" has bacome more toxic and it takes a different kind of strength to break that kind of behavior.

A reminder: There will be a times we will slip in a state of rage situation. But, what matters more is that if ever we do invoke it, we take responsibility for doing so and listen to our children's feelings without hanging anything over their heads. It makes love appear conditional and transactional rather than doing so, that will make a child anxious.

EXAMPLE OF A TOXIC FILIPINO CULTURE.

“Not Allowed To Reason Out” or “Bawal Mangatwiran” is an example of a toxic Filipino Culture, especially in Filipino family households.

There were several instances of children that have been harassed by their parents for every single mistake that they have by yelling, physical and verbal abuse, psychological torture, and many more.

Which is extremely TOXIC!

If you are experiencing any toxic behaviors in your own family, it is essential to speak up about them and work to change them. You deserve to have a healthy, happy life that is free from toxicity!

Terminate the eternal cycle, Escape.

EXAMPLE OF TOXIC FILIPINO CULTURE

USING YOUR KID AS A RETIREMENT PLAN

It's terrible for kids when parents treat them like an investments. Your child didn't ask to be born and they do not owe you for parenting them. If you believe having children will put you through a lot of financial hardship, it's okay to forgot having them.

“YOUR KIDS ARE NOT YOUR RETIREMENT PLAN”

EXAMPLE OF TOXIC FILIPINO CULTURE

(COMPARING AN INDIVIDUAL TO OTHER PEOPLE)

"Bakit hindi mo gayahin si..." is what we usually hear from people whenever they are comparing us to someone else. Contradictory to what they intend to say is wanting us to succeed and excel in life but because of the phrase "Bakit hindi mo ganyahin si ganito, si ganiyan." it discourage an indivual to feel motivated.

"We are all different. Comparing others will not make you triumphant."

"Filipino time"
- In this day and age filipino time has been mostly normalised, this should have never happened as it is ones duty to respect each other more specifically each other's time. Now as a person striving for change, what will you do to change this toxic culture?

EXAMPLE OF TOXIC
FILIPINO CULTURE

( ENGLISH AS BASIS OF INTELLIGENCE )

As "Pilipinos," we all speak the same language, "filipino," which is known as our native language. However, since we were colonized by the Americans, they taught us their own language, English. As a result, we Filipinos believe that those who can speak foreign languages are much more intelligent...which is no true!

"LANGUAGE SHOULD NOT BE THE FOUNDATION OF YOUR HUMAN INTELLIGENCE."

REVOKING TOXIC FILIPINO CULTURE!

Our mind is the creator of our own world. By world, I mean everything that’s weaved around you such as your:
– work
– habits
– personality
– relationships
– goals
– etc.

Mindset is a kind of programming of our mind that shapes how we perceive our world and ourselves.
Toxic mindset or unhealthy thinking can cause neglect or trauma. So imagine if we lived in a toxic community…

As you know, we Filipinos have many cultures and characteristics. One is a toxic way of thinking that has been passed down over the years and many people don't even bother to criticize it. One of the best examples of Toxic Filipino Traits is TOXIC EXPECTATIONS or "KAYA MO NAMAN YAN EH". The toxic expectations to provide and give to your family all the time just because you can. We all know that helping your family is a good thing to do, but you also need to take care of yourself, especially in this day when not everything can easily be distributed.

This kind of thinking should and must stop. We humans need to work to be more positive and open with our community and with ourselves.

Our page aims to address and educate on the different toxicological traits of Filipinos.

OBJECTIVES:
– Cancelling the Toxic Filipino Culture
– Creating a positive mindset in our community
– To aware people about the norms
– Freedom from the nonstop cycle of Toxic Filipino Culture
– To educate individuals about the Toxic Filipino Culture
– Allowing incompetent people to have a voice
– Promoting the establishment of healthy, good connection between blood relations.
– Hope and light for new generation
– Addressing toxic behaviours in Filipino Toxic Culture
