Mamas, those fruit cravings are real, and the best part is, most fruits are perfectly safe and super nutritious for you and your baby. Here are some tasty, healthy options you can enjoy guilt-free:

Apples: Great for digestion and packed with vitamins

Bananas: Boost energy and help prevent leg cramps

Oranges: Keep you hydrated and strengthen immunity

Mangoes (ripe): Sweet and vitamin-rich, enjoy in moderation

Pears: Gentle on the tummy and rich in fiber

Watermelon: Refreshing and hydrating, just make sure it’s fresh

Blueberries: Loaded with antioxidants, always wash well

Avocados: Healthy fats for baby’s brain development

Strawberries: High in vitamin C and folate, wash properly

Papaya (ripe only): Aids digestion, avoid unripe ones

Fruit Safety Tips:
• Wash fruits thoroughly
• Peel when needed
• Eat in moderation
• Avoid unripe or semi-ripe papaya

Every mama’s body is unique. What feels fine for one may not for another. If something doesn’t sit right, listen to your body and talk to your midwife.

5 REASONS WHY THE CERVIX MAY STAY HARD AND NOT OPEN DURING LABOUR

For labour to progress smoothly, the cervix must soften, shorten, and open. However, sometimes it remains firm and closed, delaying delivery. Here are 5 common reasons why this happens:

1. First Pregnancy (Untried Cervix)
In first-time mothers, the cervix is usually tighter and less elastic. It may take longer to soften and dilate compared to women who have delivered before.

2. Anxiety and Tension
Fear and stress can cause the body to release adrenaline, which interferes with the hormone oxytocin that drives contractions and cervical dilation. A calm mind helps the cervix open faster.

3. Poor Contractions
If contractions are weak or irregular, they may not be strong enough to cause cervical changes. Medical support or natural methods like walking and upright positions can help improve contractions.

4. Dehydration and Fatigue
Lack of fluids and energy reduces uterine efficiency. Staying hydrated and nourished helps contractions become more effective in opening the cervix.

5. Malposition of the Baby
If the baby’s head is not well positioned or pressing on the cervix, dilation can be delayed. Changing positions, using a birthing ball, or guided medical interventions can help correct this.

Remember, every labour is different. Stay calm, trust your body, and follow your midwife’s guidance.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU START PUSHING BEFORE 10CM DILATION

Many first-time mamas feel the urge to push as soon as contractions start, but it is important to wait until the cervix is fully dilated to 10 centimeters. Pushing before this point can cause more harm than good.

Here is what can happen if you push too early:
• Prolonged labor: Your cervix may swell and stop opening, which can make labor longer and more exhausting.
• Increased risk of tears: Early pushing can strain the birth canal and lead to more severe perineal tears.
• Fetal distress: The baby may not move safely through the birth canal if the timing is off.
• Exhaustion for the mother: Using energy too early can make the actual pushing stage harder and more tiring.

Your midwife will guide you on when and how to push. Trusting her instructions ensures a safer delivery for both you and your baby.

To burp your baby, gently hold them upright against your shoulder or sit them on your lap with their back straight and head supported. Lightly pat or rub their back in an upward motion to help air move out. Keep the movements gentle — you don’t need to tap hard for it to work.

Some babies burp quickly, while others take a few minutes, so be patient. And remember — it’s normal if a little milk comes up during burping, so keep a cloth handy.
