The Democrito O. Plaza Memorial Hospital Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory (DOPMHMDL) of the Province of Agusan del Sur was acknowledged as โBest Practices Exhibitor Awardee (Information Category)โ and โQuality Assurance Program (QAP) Awardeeโ at the recently concluded Bayanihan COVID-19 Laboratory Network Recognition Ceremony held at the Green Sun Hotel, Makati City, Metro Manila on December 1, 2023.
The event was attended by representatives of over 300 molecular laboratories across the country. This includes public and private COVID-19 laboratories, reference laboratories, Center for Health and Development (CHD) and Ministry of Health-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MOH-BARMM), organized by the Department of Health, in collaboration with the National Laboratory Response Network Unit (NLRNU) headed by DOH Undersecretary, Dr. Nestor F. Santiago Jr.
The ceremony highlighted and honored the remarkable accomplishments and dedication of molecular laboratories which paved way in ultimately improving the entire COVID-19 laboratory network in aspects of financing, information, service delivery, supply chain management, human resource management and quality assurance program.
DOPMHMDL was granted Quality Assurance Program (QAP) Award after garnering 5-star rating, equivalent to 94.58% during the 2022 Research Institute for Tropical Medicine Quality Assessment.
Additionally, the laboratory was awarded Best Practices Exhibitor Award (Information Category). This award is a proof of the laboratoryโs highly effective, innovative and multi-faceted in-house developed information system which has key features that facilitate sample management and test ordering, fast reporting and result delivery via email and SMS using Application- to-Peer (A2P) messaging platform, data analytics, heat map for bio-surveillance and QC graphs for quality control monitoring.
In a separate recognition ceremony (Caraga Regional Epidemiology Surveillance and Recognition) held on November 9, 2023 at Siargao, Surigao del Norte, the laboratory was awarded a Plaque of Recognition as top performing laboratory and best in bio-surveillance in the region. This is a testament of the laboratoryโs dedication and commitment to providing exceptional and high-quality diagnostic services.
The DOPMHMDL began operations during the height of pandemic, and became a very important facility in the region of Caraga. This strengthened the overall strategy of the DOH to identify, test, isolate and properly treat all COVID-19 cases by not only serving the locality but also the rest of the provinces of Caraga region.
These achievements were made possible by the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur, under the leadership of Gov. Santiago B. Cane Jr., who has given full support to the operation of the laboratory, together with the Provincial Health Officer II, Dr. Jacqueline Frances F. Momville, former acting chief of hospital, Dr. Ma. Virginia F. Abacajen, the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE), the Zuellig Family Foundation (ZFF) and rest of the private partners.
