Our therapists, T. Zie and T. Poy, recently attended the Learning Without Tears: Handwriting workshop, with focus on Readiness & Writing for Pre-K, Print and Cursive Writing, and Handwriting Assessment, held at Acacia Hotel, Alabang. This learning opportunity equips them with valuable tools and strategies to better assess and support children in building strong handwriting foundations—making writing a more accessible and positive experience for every child.

It’s normal to have questions. It’s normal to wonder if therapy is “working.”
Some days you might not see the changes you’re hoping for yet—but your therapist is tracking every skill, every step, and every bit of progress that might be hard to spot day-to-day.

Therapy isn’t instant. It’s a journey built on trust, patience, and teamwork between you, your child, and your therapist. Even on slow days, we’re moving forward—together.

Therapy is so much more than the hour spent in the session room. Before each session, our therapists carefully plan, review goals, and gather materials to ensure activities are engaging and purposeful. After the session, they take time to reflect, document progress, and adjust strategies to better support each child’s growth.

Every step — before, during, and after — is dedicated to making therapy meaningful, effective, and personalized for every child we work with.

How to Verify Licensed Therapists in the Philippines âś… (*updated QR codes)

When it comes to your or your child's health and development, it’s crucial to work with licensed professionals. Here’s how you can ensure your therapist is qualified in the Philippines:

1. Verify PRC License:
- In the Philippines, licensed speech therapists, physical therapists and occupational therapists are regulated by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
- You can easily verify their PRC license status through the PRC Online Verification System: https://online.prc.gov.ph/Verification
- Enter the professional's FULL NAME or PRC license number to confirm if they are in good standing and have an active license.
- In clinics, licenses and/or certificates of registration from PRC should be posted or be readily available for viewing.

2. Education and Training:
- Ensure they graduated from an accredited institution in the Philippines or abroad.
- Legitimate therapists hold at least a Bachelor's degree in their respective fields.

3. Professional Associations:
- Many licensed therapists (but not all) are also members of their respective professional organizations, such as the Philippine Association of Speech Pathologists (PASP), the Philippine Academy of Occupational Therapists (PAOT), and the Philippine Physical Therapy Association (PPTA).
- Hence, you can also verify if they are a member of these organizations. Membership here adds another layer of credibility and ensures the therapist meets the required standards for practice in the country.
- These professional associations also offer a directory of clinics with licensed therapists.

Meltdown or Tantrumâť“

Not all big feelings are the same. They may look similar—but they’re not the same. Sometimes, what looks like a tantrum might actually be a sensory meltdown—a response to overwhelming sights, sounds, or other sensory input. While tantrums are often driven by a goal (like wanting a toy or attention), sensory meltdowns come from a child’s inability to cope with their environment. They’re not planned or purposeful—and your child isn’t trying to misbehave.

Understanding the difference matters. Knowing whether a child is having a tantrum or a sensory meltdown helps adults respond with empathy rather than discipline. In moments of sensory overload, children need calm, safe spaces and supportive adults who can help them regulate. Let’s support children by listening to what their behavior is communicating, and giving them tools—not consequences—for emotional and sensory regulation.

✨ Reminders that you're a good therapist (especially for when you doubt yourself) ✨

When we get comfortable in the therapist routine, sometimes we end up questioning ourselves so here's your reminder that you are doing it well. If you show up with empathy, if you listen with intention, if you hold space for growth, even in small ways—then you're already doing meaningful work. You're not just helping your clients, but you're also showing up for them in ways that truly matter.

Pass it on too! Sometimes the kind words you offer yourself are exactly what someone else needs to hear too. The simplest "you're doing great" can go a long way! Encouragement is never wasted, so if something here made you feel a little lighter today, be someone else's gentle reminder.
