Rh - Negative and Apheresis Summit 2025
Republic Act No. 7719, also known as the National Blood Services Act of 1994, was enacted to promote voluntary blood donation, ensure a safe and adequate blood supply, and regulate the operation of blood banks in the Philippines. This landmark legislation recognizes blood donation as a humanitarian act, emphasizing its life-saving impact and the need to foster a culture of regular and voluntary donation.
In line with the objectives of this Act, the Philippine Blood Center launches a strategic initiative to strengthen the pool of regular blood donors by encouraging their transition to and retention as apheresis donors. Apheresis donation plays a vital role in maintaining a stable and sufficient supply of blood components—such as platelets and plasma—especially for patients with specific clinical needs.
This initiative also seeks to actively engage Rh-negative donors in targeted programs and activities. Given the rarity of Rh-negative blood, these individuals are critical in ensuring the availability of compatible blood products for Rh-negative patients. Their continued participation is essential to saving lives and upholding the equity and inclusivity of our healthcare system.
By integrating education, innovation, and community involvement, this initiative aims to promote awareness, expand donor engagement, and ultimately build a resilient and sustainable blood supply system that upholds the core values of compassion, service, and public health.
