Most children are ready to brush their own teeth between age 6 and 9, but, ๐ฎ๐ด๐ฒ ๐ถ๐ ๐ก๐ข๐ง ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐บ๐ถ๐ป๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ณ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐ผ๐ฟ. Rather, there are certain skills that children need to develop in order to know that theyโre ready to brush on their own:

๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐: Dexterity can be checked if your child can already tie his/her own shoelaces. When your child is dextrous enough to tie their own laces, they're probably ready brush independently.
2๏ธโฃ ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐ฝ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ฏ๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐๐: Hygiene habits (i.e. hand washing, combing the hair) takes time to develop in children. Once you can trust your child on doing these hygiene habits on their own, they are ready to brush solo.
3๏ธโฃ ๐ฆ๐ฝ๐ถ๐๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด: Spitting is an important step during toothbrushing. Until they have mastered spitting the toothpaste into the sink by themselves, they still need adult supervision.
