I was losing my oxygen and was told that I only have 30% chance of living due to my lung condition, but I survived!
My name is Ivan kyle Bergonio and this is my story.
At the age of 15, I considered myself independent since my parents had to work abroad to provide for us. I was left with my sibling and grandmother.
I carelessly overworked myself despite having health issues when I was a teen and disregarding my Parents reminders which lead me to a scenario a year ago when I pushed myself trying to work on a call center, thinking that I need to work and prove myself to help my family financially in times of this pandemic. I worked night shift from 8 PM to 5 AM and even worked over time during queuing days. Since I am the head of the family and no one in our family can cook, after work I need to cook for my grandmother and siblings after shift so that when I am asleep at noon and they have something to eat which kept me awake for another 2 hours. This kept going on for a year and a month and ended when my company decided to lay off workers including me. Since I am laid off, I now have all the time in the world to rest. However, since my body is at rest this is also the time where I felt tired and exhausted.
Last April 2021… It all started with a little itch on the throat, then small coughs came that lasted for 2 weeks and never ended. I took medicines that my previous doctor prescribed as a precaution, however it did not work. I am already on my 3rd week and decided to see a doctor. She then diagnosed me with tuberculosis and prescribed medications that I took for 3 weeks. Never did I miss a pill in the morning, sadly I am feeling much worse during those 3 weeks of medication, I also came to a point where I am losing oxygen which we all thought that it was COVID-19. And so I rushed to get a PCR test, which resulted to negative. By the time I am already at my worst, My sister who had always been by my side since the beginning rushed to my doctor and consulted everything that was happening to me and advised her to admit me in a hospital. Since this all happened during a hard lockdown and during a pandemic, it was a struggle to get a room in a hospital. We waited for almost 4 hours just to get in and have a room, we were also placed in a tent were covid patients stayed. Luckily, we were able to have room in a covid ward while waiting for another PCR test. We then tested negative again and were transferred after 2 days to a private room which I was given dozens of antibiotics, every day up to 4 needles were inserted in my arms for the much needed tests, and little did I know the results of my test were horrifying.
My doctor called my mom through the phone which I did not hear since the doctor didn’t want me to be startled. These are the exact words that the doctor said to my sister and my mom
“Your son has a 30% chance of living due to his lungs condition”
My mom and everybody in my family was so worried and I can see it through their faces, but they kept their heads high and looked as if nothing is happening. They asked for prayers from friends, from relatives and even from strangers. Prayers kept me going, the look on my family’s faces kept me strong and so I fought this illness with the help of prayers, the doctors and supplements that really helped me.
