[TRANSPARENCY REPORT: TYPHOON RELIEF OPERATIONS 2025]

Last July 27, 2025, UP ABM, UP PMHS, and UPZS handed over 𝟭𝟬𝟮 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀 and boxes of clothes to the LGU of 𝗕𝗿𝗴𝘆. 𝗧𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻, 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘇𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆.

We would like to extend our 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 to all donors, volunteers, and organizations who made this initiative possible! Here is the transparency report of how your kindness was used to aid communities affected by Typhoon Crising, Dante, and Emong.

All remaining funds will be used for future relief operations. Your Institute of Biology organizations will continue to remain 𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁, 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 our local communities in need.

In light of the devastating impact of Typhoons Crising, Dante, and Emong we are seeking for your assistance as we prepare our relief packs for the residents of 𝗕𝗿𝗴𝘆. 𝗧𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻, 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘇𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 who have been severely impacted by the floods.

It's our third day here at Linan Tarsier Sanctuary in Tupi, South Cotabato and we were very lucky to have encountered this young tarsier in just our second night of searching.

After our brief yet insightful discussion with Dr. Miard during last year's Asian Primate Symposium in Medan, and taking inspiration largely from Little Fireface Project, we've been trying to incorporate the use of red spotlights in our recent efforts to monitor tarsiers, as red light is less damaging and disturbing toward nocturnal primates, unlike white light (Nekaris et al. 2020). The effect of using red light is probably most evident when you see that the pupils of the tarsier do not hyperconstrict even when shining the light directly at them. We're hoping to be able to use these more during our stay here. More updates soon!

These donations will go towards the garage sale of the Philippine General Hospital’s Cancer Institute wherein all proceeds will go towards the support of adult and pediatric cancer patients undergoing treatment. SQUIRREL!!! Have you ever seen these little critters around? 🐿️ 🔍

Although they may be cute, what they’re doing is far from it as they have been observed to attack bird nests 🪺🐿️ and chew on electrical wires ⚡🐿️. These squirrels are invasive pests that are harmful to our local biodiversity ❌👎. Unfortunately, they run rampant with established breeding populations in various eco parks and residential areas within the Greater Manila area.

Now as concerned citizens, what can you do? 🤔 Well actually, you can do a lot! And without having to suit up and go out in the field!

Social media platforms such as Facebook present an abundance of data on species occurrences of various taxa, such as the invasive Finlayson squirrels. Recording occurrence data 📍 and mapping out the distribution 🗺️ of these species can greatly contribute to actual scientific research, and a lot of it can be done from the comfort of your homes! 💻
