Are you experiencing stomach pains, skin problems, gassiness, bloating and others? Ask ND can help you address these through this simple acronym, ‘5R’: Remove, Replace, Reinoculate, Repair, and Rebalance.

Remove – Avoid everything that negatively affects the gut such as food allergies, intolerances, and potential problematic bacteria or yeast.

Replace – Replace the eliminated food with those that support proper digestion (i.e. digestive enzymes, hydrochloric acid, and bile acids) that may have been compromised by diet, medications, diseases, aging, and other factors.

Reinoculate – Consume probiotic- (i.e. lactobacillus, bifidobacterial) to help flourish the “good” bacteria in the gut and prebiotic- (high soluble fiber food) rich food to serve as food for the probiotics.

Repair - Help the lining of the gut repair itself by supplying key nutrients that can often be in short supply in a compromised gut, such as zinc, antioxidants (e.g. vitamins A, C, and E), fish oil, and the amino acids.

Rebalance – Lifestyle factors and activities such as sleep, exercise, and stress, can all affect the gut. Balance these alongside your food for optimal digestion.

Food reactions such as food allergy and food intolerance, are a frequently overlooked cause of chronic health issues. Many people with food sensitivities don’t even realize how awful they feel until the trigger food items are removed from the diet. Removing specific food from your diet will allow the body to recover and begin to function efficiently again. If the right food are not eaten, digestion and absorption may be impaired. Additionally, those with weakened immune systems may be more prone to food sensitivities.

The Elimination Diet helps to uncover food that may be the culprits of digestive problems, eczema, headaches and other health conditions.
