EXCITED FOR THE PATIENT TO SEE THE WORLD! We were able to dispense the scleral contact lenses of this 25-year-old patient a month ago just before her trip. She has keratoconus and her best corrected visual acuity with her glasses was 20/100 with double vision on both eyes. With her scleral contact lenses, she was able to see 20/20- on her right and 20/25 on the left. She came in for follow up, and was sharing how she enjoyed seeing new places with her new vision. So glad that we can be God's instrument to improve the life of this patient. Having a vibrant personality, she can't wait to explore the world!

We have been seeing more patients recently who needed PROSTHETIC CONTACT LENSES. This is by far one of the most impactful--looking through the point of view of a parent.

This child had an unknown cause of retinal detachment where she eventually developed cataract. We were told that she was very excited the day before the appointment. Here showing you her left eye that developed cataract. And the photo when we were finally able to give her-- her very own prosthetic contact lens. 🥹 As soon as we placed the lens on eye, the parent was teary eyed. It was heartbreaking. 😩 You can feel the heart of a mom, where all she wanted was for her child to be happy and free from being conscious about how she looks.

Fitting prosthetic contact lenses may not always be a one shot fit, but thinking about how it could change the patient's life makes all the effort worth it and meaningful. Hoping that each piece of these lenses brings joy to the patients.

DO YOU FREQUENTLY RUB YOUR EYES? 🎯Here we are sharing one of the most common causes of eye itchiness which is BLEPHARITIS. 👁It is actually the eyelid that is itchy rather than the eye. These scruffs on the eye lashes irritates the eye and the lid margin, which in more severe cases can lead to blockage of the lid glands and inflammation. A week after initiating proper eyelid hygiene, this patient felt more relieved and noted less lid itchiness. Say hello to one of our fastest learners! She was able to successfully insert and remove her scleral lens with ease-- 🤩 Vision today with her lenses-- 👁20/20- on the right and 👁20/25 on the left with scleral lenses. The lenses came right on time as she prepares to travel soon. 😀

😮What? Not scleral contact lenses? Looking at the corneal topography of this patient, it looks like the corneas are not too bad. But looking at the numbers closely, one will note that the corneas although look normal have very steep curves, 50's to 60's. 🧐 THIS IS ANOTHER PRESENTATION OF KERATOCONUS. Because the cornea is not too much irregular looking, we fitted the patient with a silicone daily disposable contact lens and custom soft lens for irregular corneas. Vision with the lenses were 20/25.
📌This is a perfect case where hard contact lenses (rgp and scleral lenses) may not be good choices as vision can be worse with them.

This patient has been going around different doctors due to blurring of vision of her right eye. She was referred to us by a colleague for evaluation. Her condition was finally diagnosed to be Pellucid Marginal Degeneration. This is sort of a "relative" of keratoconus. Pellucid marginal degeneration is also an ectasia, or corneal thinning, that creates irregular astigmatism. One can distinguish pellucid marginal degeneration to keratoconus with the kissing dove corneal topography pattern. We fitted her with a scleral contact lenses where vision was improved to 20/20 - . This is the initial fitting.

Myopia is not simply a number. Myopia or nearsighted can affect work, and studies of your kids. The long eye of myopes are prone to cataracts, glaucoma, retinal detachment and changes in the retina, and so can affect their future.
Some simple steps that can help are:
- have kids play outside, 90 to 120 minutes outdoor activities each day.
- 30-30 OUT: Hold your reading material at least 30 cm away, rest after 30 minutes, and vary your activities
