đ¨ TABI MUNA! Beat Drowsy Driving This Holy Week đ¨
As the Philippine Society of Sleep Medicine (PSSM), we are committed to ensuring every Filipino arrives safely at their destination this Lenten season. With the Philippines currently facing a "sleep epidemic"âranking as one of the most sleep-deprived nations globallyâthe risk of drowsy driving during long-haul province travels is at an all-time high.
A split-second of microsleepâbrief episodes of being unresponsive for 3 to 15 secondsâcan be just as fatal as drunk driving.
đ DONâT IGNORE THE SIGNS:
Frequent yawning or heavy eyelids đ´
Missing your exit or drifting from your lane đŁď¸
Difficulty remembering the last few kilometers driven đ§

PSSM MISSION: SAFE TRAVEL CHECKLIST
Prioritize 7-9 Hours of Sleep: Never start a long journey sleep-deprived.
"TABI MUNA" (Pull Over): If you feel drowsy, find a safe gasoline station or rest area immediately. A 20-minute power nap can save your life.
The Buddy System: Travel with a companion who can stay awake with you and take over the wheel.
Avoid Heavy Meals: Large, carb-heavy meals before driving can trigger post-meal sleepiness.
Schedule Stops: Take a break every 2 hours or 100km, regardless of how "awake" you feel.
This Holy Week, let your journey be a time of reflection, not regret. Your family is waiting for you at the end of the road. âď¸đď¸
