WHAT ARE VARICOSE VEINS?
Varicose veins occur when your veins become
enlarged, dilated, and overfilled with blood. Varicose
veins typically appear swollen and raised, and have a
bluish-purple or red color. They are often painful.
WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF VARICOSE VEINS?
Varicose veins occur when veins aren’t functioning
properly. Veins have one-way valves that prevent blood
from flowing backward. When these valves fail, blood
begins to collect in the veins rather than continuing
toward your heart. The veins then enlarge. Varicose
veins often affect the legs. The veins there are the
farthest from your heart, and gravity makes it harder for the blood to flow upward.
SOME CAUSES INCLUDE:
✏️pregnancy
✏️menopause
✏️age over 50
✏️standing for long periods of time
✏️obesity
✏️family history of varicose veins
HOW TO PREVENT VARICOSE VEINS:
✔️Avoid standing for extended periods of time.
✔️Lose weight or maintain a healthy weight.
✔️Exercise to improve your circulation.
✔️Use compression socks or stockings.
TREATMENT BY SCLEROTHERAPY PROCEDURE:
Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to eliminate
varicose veins and spider veins. Sclerotherapy involves
an injection of a solution directly into the affected
veins, causing them to shrink and eventually disappear.
HOW IT'S DONE?
In sclerotherapy, the solution is injected through a very
fine needle directly into the vein. At this point, you may
experience mild discomfort and cramping for one to two
minutes, especially when larger veins are injected. The
procedure itself takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes.
The number of veins injected in one session varies,
and depends on the size and location of the veins, as
well as the general medical condition of the patient. 📸
