5 Early Signs of Glaucoma You Shouldn’t Ignore

Glaucoma is called the “silent thief of sight” because it often has no early symptoms. By the time vision loss is noticeable, the damage may already be irreversible. That’s why early detection is key! Here are 5 early warning signs to watch for:

1. Blurred Vision
If your vision seems hazy or blurry, especially in low-light conditions, it could be an early sign of glaucoma.

2. Halos Around Lights
Seeing rainbow-colored halos around streetlights or car headlights may indicate high eye pressure—a major risk factor for glaucoma.

3. Gradual Loss of Peripheral Vision
Many people don’t notice this at first, but glaucoma often starts by reducing side (peripheral) vision. If objects seem to “disappear” from your side view, get tested.

4. Eye Pain or Headaches
Sudden, severe eye pain, headache, nausea, or vomiting can be a sign of acute angle-closure glaucoma, which requires emergency treatment.

5. Frequent Changes in Glasses Prescription
If you constantly need new prescriptions but still struggle with vision, it could be due to underlying eye pressure problems.
