BAI Warns Public vs. Unverified Rabies Rapid Test Kits

The Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) has issued a public advisory warning against the use of unverified and unregistered rapid test kits for rabies. According to BAI, there are currently no rabies test kits approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the Philippines.

BAI stressed that these rapid tests, which claim to give instant results using saliva or blood, are unreliable and may produce false negative results—posing serious risks, as rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear.

The agency urged the public to rely only on accredited laboratories and proper diagnostic methods, and to immediately consult licensed veterinarians in cases of animal bites, in line with the Anti-Rabies Act of 2007.
