The Teaching Psychology Special Interest Group proudly took part in the recently concluded 𝐏𝐀𝐏 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 held at the Luxent Hotel last December 7-8, 2025. ✨

As one of the recognized units of PAP, we made sure our voice was represented as we collectively move toward 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗣𝗔𝗣. We contributed to refining and revisiting the organization’s KRAs and vision-mission, which are important steps in shaping the future of psychology in the Philippines.

We are excited to see how these directions will cascade to the Leadership Council and inspire our initiatives moving forward! 💙🩵📘

AI is rapidly transforming the landscape of higher education, prompting new questions about curriculum design, assessment, and professional formation in psychology.

[𝗠𝗘𝗘𝗧 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗘𝗥] Dr. MARC ERIC REYES is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Santo Tomas, known for his exemplary contributions to teaching, research, and clinical practice. He earned both his master’s and doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Santo Tomas. As a teacher and mentor, Marc is deeply committed to cultivating the next generation of psychologists. His work integrates rigorous clinical science, competency-based training, and values-driven formation. His leadership in pedagogy extends globally through the American Psychological Association, where he serves on the Membership Board and contributes to Division 2: Society for the Teaching of Psychology’s International Relations Committee.

His scholarship informs evidence-based practice and advocacy, with outputs presented in international forums and applied in community-based programs. He actively brings research into action as Program and Evaluation Consultant and Incorporator for Partners in Child Development and Progress, Inc., and as an advocate with the Buhay Movement. He previously served as Board Member and President of the Psychological Association of the Philippines. He also serves as a Lifetime Member and Board of Trustee of the Philippine Mental Health Association and contributes to global psychological solidarity through the Global Psychology Alliance. His contributions to psychology have earned international recognition. In 2022, the American Psychological Association awarded him a Presidential Citation for his “exceptional leadership of psychology in the Philippines and globally, particularly his dedication to social issues and his commitment to mentorship.”

[𝗠𝗘𝗘𝗧 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗘𝗥] Dr. MARIA REGINA HECHANOVA-ALAMPAY is a full professor in the Psychology Department of the Ateneo de Manila University. She holds a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Central Michigan University and completed her M.A. in Psychology and B.S. degrees at the University of the Philippines Diliman. A licensed psychologist and an Internationally Certified Addiction Professional, she has also served in various leadership roles, including Executive Director of the Ateneo Center for Organization Research and Development (CORD), President of the Psychological Association of the Philippines (2012–2014), and Chair of the ADMU Psychology Department (2013–2016).

Gina has been recognized throughout her career for excellence in teaching, research, and professional service. In 1996, she received the UP Chancellor's Award for Most Outstanding Faculty for pioneering innovations such as service learning. A prolific researcher, she was named Outstanding Young Scientist by the National Academy of Science and Technology in 2005. In 2010, she was honored as one of The Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS). The Professional Regulation Commission named her the Outstanding Professional of the Year for Psychology in 2018, acknowledging her significant contributions to the field. In 2021, she received the American Psychological Association Global Citizen Psychologist Citation for her community-based interventions. Most recently, in 2024, the Psychological Association of the Philippines awarded her the Outstanding Psychologist Award.

[𝗠𝗘𝗘𝗧 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗘𝗥] Prof. PIERCE DOCENA is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the Division of Social Sciences, University of the Philippines Tacloban College. He obtained his Master of Arts in Psychology from the University of the Philippines Diliman, where he is currently completing his PhD in Psychology with a specialization in Clinical Psychology. His research interests include the lives and experiences of LGBT people, resilience in the context of disasters, and youth issues. He is a founding member of the LGBT Psychology Special Interest Group and a member of the Teaching Psychology Interest Group of the Psychological Association of the Philippines. Among his recognitions are the Outstanding Faculty Award of UP Tacloban, the Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Assistant Professor of UP Visayas, the Outstanding Thesis Award from the Psychological Association of the Philippines, and his distinction as tenth placer in the October 2019 Licensure Examination for Psychometricians.
