How do we break the bad news?

The UERM Department of Medicine hosted a P*P QC Chapter Activity entitled: Beyond the Words -- Communicating Compassion in Challenging Conversations last April 26, 2025 at Cohan Auditorium, UERM.

This activity explored the often-unacknowledged burden experienced by physicians when delivering difficult news to families of patients with chronic illnesses. This aimed to highlight the critical importance of establishing treatment goals and understanding family dynamics, as these significantly influence patient management. These discussions will underscore the necessity of sensitive conversations not only for families of patients with malignancies and terminal illnesses but for all individuals facing chronic, debilitating conditions.

UERM is one with the World Cancer Day 2025 as we took part with the "ACT NOW: 30-Day Screening to Treatment" held last February 4 2024 at SB Park, IBP Rd, Batasan Hills, Quezon City

The "ACT NOW: 30-Day Screening to Treatment" campaign is expected to make a profound impact on cancer care in Quezon City and beyond.

By reducing the time between screening and treatment, this initiative aims to improve patient outcomes and save lives.

The collaborative efforts of PCS, PSO, and QCHD, supported by public and private partners, underscore a shared commitment to a healthier future, fostering hope and action in the fight against cancer.

A special segment of cancer education was headed by Dr. Arthur Jason Go, Chair of Social Responsibility Committee of the Philippine Society of Oncologists / UERM Medical Center.

Truly, being a part of the department has helped the residents to have a more holistic approach of care for our patients. The department takes pride in our patient care and rapport, and more importantly, the values of our residents and consultants when it comes to being a physician.

May this serve as an inspiration not only for the residents, but for the future physicians as well.

The Residents' Training Core of the Department of Medicine held a special workshop highlighting the importance of building healthcare communication & collaboration skills via improv principles & exercises through purposeful play.

This was done with the help of Dr. Anthony Carandang, one of the frontrunners of PlayMD PH, an organization providing guidance on improvisation skills of healthcare workers.

It was a purposeful, yet fun activity to enhance the communication and collaborative skills within the training program.
