Dahil marami na ang naging pagbabago sa medical technology sector, isinumite ni Senator Kuya B**g Go sa Senado ang Senate Bill No. (SBN) 2503, o ang "Philippine Medical Technology Act of 2023" noong December 5.

Layunin ng SBN 2503 na maamyendahan ang mga lumang batas partikular ang Republic Act Nos. 5527 at 6138, at ang Presidential Decree Nos. 498 at 1534 para makaagapay ang ating medical technologists sa global standards.

Ayon kay Senator Kuya B**g Go, Chair ng Senate Committee on Health, halos 50 taon na mula nang likhain ang mga umiiral na naturang batas at kailangang ma-update para sa pag-unlad ng ating medical technology.

Aniya, “Magkokonsulta po kami during the hearing, tatanungin po namin kung ano po ang version na inyong [medical technologists] gusto at makatutulong po na maisulong po ‘yung naaayon po sa panahon ngayon. Kasi 2023 na tayo, napakatagal na po ng inyong MedTech law at dapat po ay i-amend na po ito.”

The Philippine Association of Medical Technologists, Inc. (PAMET) mourns the passing of Dr. Delia De Castro-Ontengco. She has served the association as its National PRO from 2005-2006 and was a recipient of the Crisanto Almario Memorial Award for Research in 1992. Her meritorious service to the industry, research, and academe will be remembered fondly. We implore our members to pray for her eternal repose. May she rest in peace.

Objectives also advocates for proper recognition in the healthcare system. We are not Doctors or Nurses; we are Medical Technologists, working alongside with them in a collaborative manner—as the backbone of accurate diagnoses and supporting the effective care and management of patients.

We deserve to be recognized across the healthcare system and to receive better and life-sustaining compensation.
