Tita Jen is a trained Breastfeeding Peer Counselor and has been supporting breastfeeding mothers since 2013. She is also a certified birth doula and is part of the Pinay Doulas Collective. She conducts breastfeeding, postpartum and birth preparation classes. Starting July 21, 2025, we will hold one-on-one sessions every Mondays at 9 and Beyond. Hooray for Parenting Classes in Manila with Doula Velvet's RE-CERTIFICATION with DONA International!

Big news, everyone! I’m over the moon to share that I’ve been officially recertified as a Birth Doula with DONA International! For those who don’t know, DONA International is the gold standard for birth and postpartum doulas worldwide, and I’m so proud to continue carrying this credential as Doula Velvet.

Looking back, it all started in 2013 when I trained to become a doula at Bastyr University (San Diego, California) under the incredible Penny Simkin—a true pioneer in the birth world and has written so many books/articles. I’ll forever be grateful to Innes Fernandez of Arugaan for guiding me toward this beautiful path. After my training and initial certification, I founded the Pinay Doulas Collective, the first doula organization in the Philippines, to support and empower birthing families in our communities.
Over the years, my doula sisters have been my rock—lifting me up, cheering me on, and reminding me why this work means so much.

Together, we’ve held space for countless families during some of the most sacred moments of their lives. Being a doula isn’t just what I do—it’s who I am. And I’m so honored to continue this journey, proudly and loudly, as Doula Velvet!

Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way—my family, friends, clients, students and fellow doulas. Let’s keep creating more love, more connection, and more empowered births together!

Your Doula Pat is now a Certified Hypnobirthing Instructor from The Calm Birth School. 🥳

I am excited to bring TCBS' hypnobirthing course to moms here in the Philippines so watch out for the official launch of Hypnobirthing with Doula Pat in the next few months. Hint: may or may not coincide during my birth month. 😉
