Every day we struggle, we fight, we educate, we help – but is it enough?

The alarming report from the Manila Bulletin highlights the urgency: the Philippines is now seeing the world’s fastest rise in new HIV cases. This reality compels us to act even more decisively. Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Ted Herbosa has called on President Marcos to declare a national public health emergency over HIV – a call that reflects the gravity of this crisis.

Each day, we strive to close the gaps: we offer testing, treatment, and hope. We confront stigma and stand with the most vulnerable. Still, this surge reminds us that while our daily efforts are essential, they must be part of a united national and global response.

Thank you, Secretary Ted Herbosa, for the call and for recognizing the need to treat this as a public health emergency.

𝐀𝐈𝐃𝐒 𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐋𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 𝐌𝐄𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐀𝐋 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓

On May 22, 2025, the RMPH - We Care Clinic held a poignant AIDS Candlelight Memorial, a solemn occasion dedicated to honoring the memory of friends, family, and colleagues lost to AIDS. The event commenced with a Mass led by Father Jaime Villanueva, fostering a sense of spiritual unity. This was followed by a deeply moving prayer and Candle Lighting ceremony, with participation from RMPH-OPD doctors, staff, and patients, creating a shared space of remembrance and support.

Dr. Ma. Luisa Magsila, Chief of Hospital I, RMPH-OPD, delivered an impactful opening message, setting the tone for the memorial. Dr. Ma. Aimy V. Bialen, a HACT Physician, followed with a presentation on the most recent data and statistics concerning HIV/AIDS, providing crucial context and highlighting the ongoing need for awareness and action. The highlight of the program was a powerful testimony from Client RMPH - 108, who bravely shared his personal journey with HIV. He recounted his life before diagnosis and his decision to embrace medication, offering an intimate glimpse into his experiences. His story resonated deeply with attendees, particularly those hesitant to get tested due to stigma and discrimination, and emphasized the importance of adhering to ART medications and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

𝐂𝐀𝐏𝐈𝐙𝐓𝐀𝐇𝐀𝐍 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 (𝐬𝐓𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐓 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐲)

We CARE Clinic and Treatment Facility joins Capiztahan 2025. It was a joyful and productive day conducting an outreach activity at Pueblo de Panay, Techno Park last April 4-6 together with the development partners (SHIP, AIHA, ICAP) and NGO (Capiz Shells and JCI).

The night was so fun and easy offering the people attended the sTREAT Party of Free HIV and STI Testing and Screening, Condoms, Lubricants, PrEP and Counseling. Special thanks to the DOH - KnowTell Van (PSFI) for allowing us to used the Van as a venue for testing and to the Province of Capiz and Provincial Health Office.

𝐎𝐧 𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥 𝟏, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓, JCI Roxas Sinadya, in close collaboration with RMPH - We Care Clinic and a network of dedicated partners and local government units, orchestrated a highly impactful HIV Awareness and Mental Health initiative at SM City Roxas. This crucial activity aimed to foster a deeper understanding and promote effective prevention strategies concerning HIV.

Discussions delved into the complexities of HIV transmission, debunked prevalent myths, stressed the importance of proven preventative measures, and underscored the significance of the Republic Act 11166. The event's vibrant and engaging atmosphere was fueled by the spirited participation of students representing various schools throughout Roxas City.

Adding significant value, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐚. 𝐀𝐢𝐦𝐲 𝐕𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐞𝐯𝐚-𝐁𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧, the HACT Physician from We CARE Clinic, lent her expertise as a guest speaker, sharing invaluable professional insights with the attentive audience. The informative talk proved to be a resounding success, illuminating a critical health issue and empowering the community with the knowledge and resources necessary for protection and prevention. The organizers are optimistic that this event will serve as a springboard for continued education and proactive action regarding HIV and AIDS within the region.
