Strengthening Our Teachers, Supporting Our Students ๐ŸŒฟ

The Psychological First Aid (PFA) Training for Teachers was successfully conducted by Dr. Mark T. Ortibano Tibz Koi Consultant Psychologist of Sagay City, and facilitated by the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) โ€œTeam Sigayโ€, spearheaded by Sagay National High School.

This training equips our educators with the right knowledge and skills to provide immediate emotional and psychological support to learners and colleagues during times of stress, crisis, or disaster.

๐Ÿ’ก With PFA, our teachers become first responders of careโ€”helping create safe, supportive, and resilient schools where no one is left behind.

Mental Health in the Workplace

To all leaders, supervisors, and colleagues in our offices:
Please remember that having depression, anxiety, or psychosis does not mean a person is incapable, unskilled, or unworthy of opportunities.

Many individuals facing mental health challenges are highly talented, hardworking, and resilient. What they need most is understanding, support, and a safe environmentโ€”not judgment or discrimination.

Let us build workplaces where people are valued for their abilities, not defined by their struggles. Compassion and respect can make all the difference. ๐ŸŒฑโœจ

Today marks a meaningful collaboration between the Sagay Population Office, City Health Office, City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD), Sagay National High School, and the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Team "Team Sigay" as we conducted an AHD Class and HEADSSS Assessment for selected Grade 11 students of Sagay National High School.

This initiative aims to understand the root causes of rising cases of anxiety, depression, and self-harm among adolescents. Through the HEADSSS framework (Home, Education, Activities, Drugs, Sexuality, Suicide/Depression, and Safety), we hope to gather insights and provide early interventions for our youth.

๐Ÿ’ก The activity also included an Adolescent Health and Development Class, where students learned about:
โœ… The Reproductive System
โœ… Sexuality and Gender
โœ… Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)
โœ… Responsible decision-making and overall adolescent well-being

These sessions are designed to empower students, equip them with lifesaving knowledge, and promote mental and emotional resilience. ๐ŸŒฑ

๐Ÿ“Œ While we've only completed 3 sections today, this is just the beginning. More sessions are lined up in the coming days as we continue reaching more students in need of support, education, and guidance.

Together, we build a future where every young person becomes a champion of their own mental health and well-being. ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿ“ข Strengthening Mental Health Awareness Among Students! ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ’™

In response to the growing concerns surrounding adolescent mental health, a 3-day Mental Health Screening was successfully conducted for the Senior High School students of Sagay National High School. This initiative was carried out by Psychology students from National University (NU) Bacolod, under the guidance of Dr. Mark T. Ortibano, Head of the NU Bacolod School of Psychology and Consultant Psychologist for the Sagay City LGU; Mr. Jose Marie Portal, NU Bacolod Community Engagement Coordinator; and Ms. Trina Grace Pahilanag, NU Bacolod Guidance Counselor.

This meaningful activity was made possible through the invaluable support and leadership of Ms. Ryan Joy Dizon, Executive and Academic Director of NU Bacolod.

The initiative was further strengthened through careful planning and coordination with the DepEd Tayo Sagay City, led by Mr. Dannie Clark Dan Uguil, and the Principal of Sagay National High School - Senior High School, Mr. Jerson Donasco . Their unwavering commitment to addressing the growing mental health challenges faced by adolescents paved the way for this impactful engagement.

With the collective efforts of multiple sectorsโ€”Sagay City Health Office, Sagay CSWD, Sagay DRRM, and TEAM MHPSS TEAM SIGAYโ€”the screening has successfully commenced. However, this is just the beginning! ๐ŸŒฑ

This initiative marks a significant step toward promoting mental health awareness, providing essential support, and creating a safer, more nurturing environment where students can thrive.

Letโ€™s continue working together to break the stigma surrounding mental health and prioritize the well-being of our youth! Mental health matters! ๐Ÿ’™

Special thanks to our Congressman Alfredo D. Maraรฑon, III, City Mayor Hon Narciso L.Javelosa Jr and Vice Mayor Leo Rafael M. Cueva for all the financial and manpower support and to the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental Governor Hon. Eugenio Jose Lacson for the provision of vehicle to the students of the National University Bacolod
