December 5, 2025 β A meaningful and informative Symposium on HIV/AIDS and STI Awareness, Mental Health Awareness, and the Importance of Balanced and Proper Nutrition in Achieving a Healthy Lifestyle was successfully conducted at the SICC Auditorium. The program highlighted essential discussions on health awareness, proper nutrition, and mental well-beingβempowering participants to build a healthier and more informed community.
The event began with the welcoming and introduction of participants by Ma. Theresa N. Jocson, RN, LPT, Nurse II / School Nurse, acknowledging representatives from the selected clubs and organizations within Samal Island City College. This was followed by the Welcome Message delivered by Dr. Jennifer C. Gonzaga, LPT, CMITAP, College Administrator I, who expressed the institutionβs commitment in promoting awareness and advocating for student wellness. Merje S. Abcede, RN, Head of Clinic Services Unit, then presented the Rationale of Implementing the Symposium, emphasizing the continuous need for health education and awareness programs that guide students toward better lifestyle decisions.
The core discussion commenced with Louela Ann O. Caballero, RN, Nurse III / STI and HIV/AIDS Program Coordinator / Social Hygiene Nurse / Mental Health Nurse Coordinator, who thoroughly discussed HIV/AIDS and STI Awareness, highlighting prevention, risks, misconceptions, and proper intervention. She also tackled Mental Health Awareness, underscoring the importance of emotional well-being and seeking support when needed. The final topic was delivered by Nelia M. Rodillas, RND, FFMTP, City Nutrition Program Coordinator, who emphasized the Importance of Balanced and Proper Nutrition in Achieving a Healthy Lifestyle, discussing how healthy food intake influences physical condition and overall wellness. An open forum followed, where students actively engaged with questions and insights regarding the topics discussed, demonstrating interest and awareness.
The program ended with a Word of Thanks delivered by Dr. Rey M. Navarro, LAgr, LPT, Enp., Vice President for Academic Affairs, expressing gratitude to the speakers, organizers, and participating students for contributing to the success of the event. He acknowledged the importance of collaborative learning and encouraged the continuous promotion of knowledge-driven health initiatives within the institution.
