An orientation on the eCourses offered by the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) was conducted last June 11, 2025 for the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (BSA) On-the-Job Trainees (OJTs) from Mindanao State University – Marawi Main Campus by CAGRO-FITS Center Manager Merje Faye Enerio.

During the session, the trainees were thoroughly introduced to the wide array of online learning opportunities provided by ATI, which are designed to supplement their academic training with practical and research-based knowledge in various fields of agriculture.

As part of the orientation, the trainees were guided through the enrollment process and successfully registered for the course 'Basic Urban Gardening.' Upon completion of the course, each trainee was awarded a certificate of completion, marking an important step in their continuous learning and skill development.

The orientation was part of CAGRO’s ongoing efforts to equip future agricultural professionals with accessible, science-based, and up-to-date resources that will support their learning and professional growth throughout their OJT experience.

Showcasing various agricultural IEC materials, success stories, and technologies, the FITS Center continues to serve as a hub for knowledge sharing and farmer empowerment.

This participation highlights the center’s commitment to bringing timely and relevant information closer to Rural-Based Organizations in the Island Garden City of Samal.

NAHIBALO BA KA? Series.

ALUGBATI
Ang alugbati ay may kalsiyum, iron, at mga bitamina A, B, at C. Ang mga dahon, sanga, at buto nito ay makakain lahat.

URI NG ALUGBATI
Mayroong tatlong uri ng alugbati: ang Basella alba ay mayroong kulay berde na sanga at hugis-itlog sa halos mga bilog na dahon; ang Basella rubra ay mayroong pulang tangkay at berde, hugis-itlog hanggang sa mga bilog na dahoon; at ang pangatlong uri naman ng alugbati ay ang hybrid na barayti ng dalawang ito.

PAGHAHANDA NG LUPA
Ang alugbati ay lumalago nang nahusay sa mga lupa na mataas sa organikong bagay. Gumagamit ng compost bilang abono upang magkaroon ang lupa ng sapat na halumiglig at maayos na daloy ng tubig.

PAGTATANIM
Mabilis ang paglago nito. Hindi nito kailangan ng masusing pag-aalaga. Sa paraan ng pagtatanim, maaring gumamit ng buto o pinutol na magulang na sang anito.

Pumutol ng sanga ng alugbatin na may haba na 20-25cm at may hindi bababa sa 3 internode. Ibabad ang mga pinagputulan sa tubig nang magdamag o ito ay iimbak sa mamasa-masa o malilim na lugar sa loon ng 1-2 araw. Magtanim ng 2 hanggang 4 na pinagputulan na sanga sa 15-20 cm sa pagitan ng burol at 20-30 cm sa pagitan ng mga hilera. Diligan ito ng tubig bago at pagkatapos ng pagtanim, kung ang lupa ay tuyo. Gumamit ng mulch tulad ng damo o Dayami.

PAGPAPATUBO
Sa pagpapatubo ng alugbati gamit ang buto, maghasik ng mga binhi sa mga hilera o i-broadcast sa punlaa. Ilipat ang mga punla sa 20cm x 20cm ang distansya sa pagitan ng mga halaman, 3 linggo pagkatapos ng pagtanim. Regular itong diligan upang matiyak ang mataas na pagkabuhay ng halaman.

Ito ay ang pagpapalaki ng mga gulay o pagkain sa isang lugar, lungsod, o matataong lugar. Ang pamamaraang ito ay gumagamit ng bakanteng lupa na karaniwan ay siksikan.

1.Napakikinabangan ang lupang hindi nagagamit.
2.Tipid sa gastusing pang-transportasyon.
3.Kumain nang may kumpiyansa!
4.Nakakatulong sa kalikasan.

1.Maging malikhain
-Maaring gumamit ng mga materyales na nasa paligid lang natin.
-Makatutulong sa pagpapaganda ng kapaligiran.

-Ang pagtatanim ay nangagailangan din ng sapat na oras at kasanayan.
-Sipagan ang paghahanap ng mga materyales.

3.Plant Smart
-Sa tulong ng mga eksperto, alamin kung ano ang iyong kailangan at kung ano ang pwedeng itanim sa iyong lugar.

1.CONVENTIONAL SOIL GARDENING

Ito ay ang pinaka-simpleng paraan ng pagtatanim. Mura rin ito at nangangailangan lang ng bakanteng lupa bilang taniman.

2.CONTAINER GARDENING

Ito ay gumagamit din ng lupa ngunit nakalagay sa container tulad ng paso. Ito ay bagay sa mga tahanang mabato at hindi Maganda ang kundisyon ng lupa.

3.HYDROPONICS

Sa halip na lupa, ito ay gumagamit ng tubig upang magbigay ng sustanyisa at nutrisyon sa halaman. Ito ay bagay sa mga developed na lugar na kakaunti na ang lupang taniman. Maaring mas mataas ang start-up cost nito.

4.VERTICAL/WALL GARDENING

Ang pamamaraan na ito ay ang pinakamatipid sa lugar at espasyo. Bagay ito sa mga gusali na kung saan ang mga pader ay direktang nasisikatan ng araw.

Empowering Future Agriculturists 🌱💻

BS in Agribusiness (BSAB) OJT students from Samal Island City College (SICC) take a proactive step in enhancing their knowledge and skills by enrolling in the e-Learning Courses of the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI).

ATI’s e-Learning Program offers free, accessible, and self-paced online courses covering a wide range of agricultural topics—from crop production, organic farming, and agribusiness, to climate-smart agriculture and digital farming technologies. These courses aim to equip learners with up-to-date knowledge and practical skills essential for sustainable agriculture and rural development.

By integrating e-learning into their OJT, the students are not only expanding their academic foundation but also preparing to become more competent, tech-savvy, and innovative contributors to the agri-sector.

ADVANCE AGRI-APPS! 🤩

Ang advanced agri-apps mao ang mga teknolohiya nga nagtabang sa mga mag-uuma pinaagi sa paghatag og impormasyon ug tools para sa mas episyente nga pagdumala sa agrikultura. Kini nga mga apps makatabang sa pag-monitor sa tanom, pagpangita og solusyon sa mga problema, ug pagplano sa umahan aron mapalambo ang produksiyon ug kita.

1. e-Damuhan

Ang eDamuhan usa ka Android app nga gihimo sa PhilRice, nga gitumong aron matabangan ang mga mag-uuma og mga extension workers sa Pilipinas sa pag-ila og pagdumala sa mga sagbot nga makita sa ilang kapatagan sa humay. Gigamit sa app ang cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology aron mailhan ang mga hulagway sa lain-laing klase sa sagbot nga makita sa humayan. Aduna usab kini'y katalogo sa mga sagbot, nga naglakip sa ilang scientific ug lokal nga ngalan, epekto sa tanom nga humay, ug ang girekomendang paagi sa pagdumala niini.

2. Minus One Element Technique

Ang MOET kay usa ka mobile app nga makatabang sa mga mag-uuma sa pagkwenta kung pila ka saktong abono ang angay gamiton sa ilang basakan. Pinaagi sa MOET app, makapredict sab ka sa posibleng ani base sa imong fertilization plan, makatabang aron mas hapsay ug epektibo ang pagmanage sa abono ug ani.

3. AgRiDOC

Ang AgRiDOC kay usa ka mobile app nga makatabang sa mga mag-uuma sa pagrekord sa ilang adlaw-adlaw nga mga panguma ug pagdumala sa uma, ug sa pagmonitor sa pagtubo sa humay. Pinaagi sa app, sayon ug dali nilang matiman-an ang ilang mga kalihokan ug gasto, aron mas masinati ug mas epektibo ang panguma.

4. Rice Doctor Beta

Ang Rice Doctor Beta kay usa ka mobile app alang sa mga extension workers, mag-uuma, ug uban pang gustong makat-on ug maka-diagnose sa mga peste, sakit, ug ubang problema nga mahitabo sa humay, ug unsaon kini pagdumala.

5. Rice Crop Manager

Ang Rice Crop Manager usa ka web-based nga plataporma nga naghatag og espesipikong impormasyon alang sa pagpanguma sa humay ug pagdumala sa sustansya sa yuta aron mapadako ang ani ug kita sa mga mag-uuma sa humay.

6. Binhing Palay

Ang Binhing Palay usa ka app nga giya sa mga klase sa humay, nga makatabang sa mga mag-uuma sa pagpili sa pinaka-angay nga klase sa humay nga itanum matag season.

Ang app naghatag og kompleto nga listahan sa mga klase sa humay, ug pwede nimo i-filter ang mga opsyon base sa lokasyon, palibot, klase sa binhi, ug uban pa.

Alang sa matag klase, ang app naghatag og impormasyon bahin sa ani, maturity, height, resistensya sa mga peste, ug uban pang importante nga mga kinaiya. Kini nga datos makatabang sa mga mag-uuma sa paghimo og husto nga desisyon sa ilang tanum.

COCO PEAT: To improve crop production! 🤩

Cocopeat is a fine spongy material left after the extraction of the coir from the coconut husk. It is also known as coir pith or coir dust. PNS/BAFPS 74:2017

Benefits of Using Coco Peat

Excellent Water Retention: Hold water 7-5 to 11 times its weight.

Aeration: The fibrous structure of coco peat promotes good aeration in the root zone. It prevents compaction and improves the oxygenation of plant roots, enhancing overall root health and nutrient uptake.

pH Neutral: Coco peat has a neutral pH, which means it is not too acidic or alkaline. This makes it suitable for many plants, as you can adjust the pH as needed for specific crops.
