Staying updated is a vital part of Emergency Medicine, where every decision can make a difference in patient outcomes. Today’s academic session featured the 2026 Surviving Sepsis Campaign Guidelines by the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) and the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), discussed by our 3rd year resident, Dr. Kate Tiglao.

Through sessions like this, our residents remain committed to delivering up-to-date, high-quality, and evidence-based care in the emergency department.

The JBLMGH Emergency Medicine residents were among the healthcare personnel deployed to Obando, Bulacan in response to the landfill fire in Navotas last April 18, 2026.

With communities exposed to hazardous smoke and potentially toxic substances, the team- composed of EM and IM residents, members of the JBLMGH Philippine Emergency Medical Assistance Team (PEMAT) and personnel from the JBLMGH Center for Toxicology and Biomarine Poisoning, under the leadership of our Toxicology consultant, Dr. Leslie T. Garcia- conducted health risk assessments to ensure early identification and management of affected individuals.

From rapid clinical evaluation to monitoring for respiratory and systemic effects of toxic exposure, this deployment highlights the critical role of Emergency Medicine in environmental and public health emergencies.

In times of crisis, we stand ready—not only in the ER, but wherever we are needed.

🚨 Emergency Medicine Beyond the Emergency Room 🚨

Emergency Medicine is not only confined within the walls of the ED. Our role extends far beyond—from prehospital care in the field to responding to complex hazards such as HazMat incidents. Our EM residents participated in the HazMat Operations Training held at Microtel Hotel, City of San Fernando, Pampanga from April 13–18, 2026, spearheaded by JBLMGH Center for Toxicology and Biomarine Poisoning in collaboration with the Bureau of Fire Protection- Special Rescue Force.

This intensive training equipped our residents, as well as our nurses, nursing attendants, fellow prehospital personnel and BFP- SRF trainees with essential skills in hazardous materials response, including scene safety, decontamination procedures, and the proper use of personal protective equipment. These competencies are vital in managing chemical incidents and ensuring both patient and responder safety.

By expanding their expertise beyond the emergency room, our residents continue to grow into well-rounded EM physicians ready to respond to complex and high-risk situations.

Be part of a program that goes beyond the basics. Join our Emergency Medicine family and train to become a leader in critical care and disaster response! For more pre- residency details, contact us now!
