Hospital Week 2025 Culminates with Exciting Sports Fest Championship: In-Patients vs. TRC-LU Employees

The Hospital Week 2025 celebration at TRC-LU concluded with an exhilarating Sports Fest championship where in-patients faced off against TRC-LU employees in basketball and volleyball tournaments. Male patients and staff showcased their skills in a spirited basketball game, while female participants competed fiercely in volleyball matches.

This friendly competition highlighted the importance of physical activity in recovery and wellness, fostering teamwork, trust, and camaraderie between patients and employees. The event underscored TRC-LU’s commitment to holistic care by promoting both physical health and social connection within the hospital community.

The Courtesy Visit of some key personnel of the Center at the House of Representative is a mirror of shared commitment in the continued development through improvement of health services for the vulnerable sectors such as PWUDs and their families for their treatment and recovery to become productive constituents through partnership with key officials.

TRC-LU Celebrates Hospital Week 2025 with In-Patient Sports Fest

With the theme, DOH Hospitals: A Healthy Workplace for All sa Bagong Pilipinas, The Center actively participated in the Hospital Week Celebration 2025 by organizing a Male and Female In-Patient Sports Fest. The event featured basketball games for male patients and volleyball matches for female patients, promoting physical activity and camaraderie among participants.

Engaging in sports plays a crucial role in the holistic recovery process, helping patients improve their physical health, boost morale, and reduce stress. Beyond the physical benefits, the Sports Fest fostered trust and mutual support among patients, strengthening their social connections and encouraging teamwork.

Patients will also have the opportunity to play with employees in the Finals Match. This celebration highlights about renewal - a chance to making the Center a place where hope and healing flourish. Together, we continue to transform lives!

Kyle Nisce, conveyed the most profound commendation and congratulations to the Center headed by the TRC-LU Chief of Hospital, Dr. Marvin F. Munar, for being recognized as the top DOH supervised TRC in the Philippines and for the Chief earning the 2024 DOH Excellence Award.

Regional Stakeholder's Consultation on Mandatory Alcohol and Drug Testing for PUV Drivers

In line with Department Order No. 2025-008 issued by the Department of Transportation and the recent memorandum from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), a Regional Stakeholder's Consultation was held to discuss the Mandatory Alcohol and Drug Testing for Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) drivers and conductors. This initiative supports the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013 (RA 10586) and aims to improve road safety by ensuring drivers are free from alcohol and drug influence.

The consultation was scheduled last July 17, 2025, at the LTFRB Regional Franchising and Regulatory Office I in San Fernando City, La Union. TRC-LU and other key agencies and stakeholders were invited to participate in this important dialogue to address technical and operational concerns, coordinate enforcement efforts, and develop a local implementation plan aligned with national policies.

This collaborative effort underscores the commitment to safer roads and responsible public transportation in the region.

TRC-LU Team Pays Courtesy Visit to the Governor of the Province of La Union, Hon. Eduardo C. Ortega.

The Treatment and Rehabilitation Center La Union (TRC-LU), led by The Chief, paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Eduardo C. Ortega, Governor of the Province of La Union. The delegation included Atty. Jomar Teneza, Chief Administrative Officer; Dominic Tomelden, Engineer III; Kate Valderama, Architect I; and Stan Costales, Assistant Planning Officer.

During the visit, TRC-LU expressed its support for the provincial administration and committed to collaborate on initiatives that promote health and community welfare especially the PWUDs and their families, including those vulnerables.

This courtesy visit underscores TRC-LU’s role in advancing the well-being of La Union’s residents through coordinated efforts with local government.

The Treatment and Rehabilitation Center - La Union (TRC-La Union), led by its Chief of Hospital III Dr. Marvin F. Munar, MDM, FPAFP, participated in the Committee on Good Governance and Oversight and Workforce Development Hearing Session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of the City of San Fernando, La Union, presided by Hon. Aldrine R. Jucar.

Key discussions included the proposed Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between TRC-La Union and the City Government for the drug testing of city government employees—a step forward in achieving a Drug-Free Workplace Certification.

Joining the Chief, Dr. Rachelle G. Batalla, Head of Primary Care Services, and Atty. Karlo A. Concubierta, Legal Officer III, presented comprehensive health services for the treatment and rehabilitation of Persons Who Use Drugs (PWUDs) and those dependent on illegal substances. They also highlighted the center's primary care services, including PHIC-accredited programs.

Together, we move toward a healthier, drug-free San Fernando City. 💚

DOH Health Emergency Management Bureau (HEMB) Director, Dr. Bernadette P. Velasco Visits TRC-LU

In light of the aftermath of Typhoon Emong, Director Dr. Bernadette P. Velasco with her delegation, joined by CHD-1 team headed by our Regional Director, Dr. Paula Paz Sydiongco visited TRC-LU today, July 30. The visit aims to assess the damaged facilities and to guarantee uninterrupted health services for our patients.

TRC-LU family is motivated to enhance build-back-better efforts for this visit.

In the 6th Anniversary Series, the Center was divided into four HOMES OF TRANSFORMATION through Sports and Recreation. These houses are: (a) Gryffindor, with red and gold colors, known for their bravery, daring and gallant behavior towards healing. (b) Slytherin, with green and silver colors, known for their ambition, cunning and resourcefulness to living. (c) Ravenclaw, with blue and bronze colors, known for their intelligence, wisdom and creativity to making their lives better. (d) Hufflepuff, with colors yellow and black, known for their hard work, loyalty and fairness to the circumstances where they are in now - the TRC.

These houses play a significant role in the series, influencing the characters' personalities, friendships, challenges and resilience. The support system of the house is mainly composed of the employees of the Center where they serve as coaches, just like in the real life, their life coaches.

This year's anniversary theme; @ VI: Stronger Family, United to Recovery reflect the role of different homes in the Center in transforming lives.
