In celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the East Avenue Medical Center - Toxicology Referral and Training Center (EAMC-TRTC), healthcare leaders gathered on March 23-27, 2026 at the Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA for a meaningful exchange of knowledge and best practices.

One of the highlights was the lecture by Dr. Jose T. Saporne, Chairperson of the Department of Occupational & Environmental Medicine and Chief Health Program Officer of JBLMGH. His talk, “Setting up Occupational Health Services: Frameworks, Standards, and Best Practices,” emphasized the importance of structured, compliant, and sustainable occupational health programs.

We did not just talk about worker health, we brought it straight to the people.

Morning activities of the 4th Occupational Medicine Week opened with booths for workers, bringing services and a few welcome surprises straight to the frontlines. The Pharmacy, Deparment of Dentistry, , , Employees’ Association, and IHOMS came together to provide giveaways and health-focused support that made wellness feel real, accessible, and immediate.

By the afternoon, the energy shifted but never slowed.

“WorkWell: Empowering Workers Through Wellness and Protection” took center stage, led by the JBLMGH DOEM and EHSM Office. The session opened with welcome remarks from Dr. Jose Saporne, setting the direction for the afternoon’s activities, followed by a prayer by Dr. Em Makinano and a safety reminder from Dr. Shin Santos.

Lectures by Dr. Zey Sundiam on EHWC Multispecialty Services Updates and Dr. Mai Estaris on the Employees’ Compensation Program translated policy into practical, usable insight.

Then came the part no one just sat through. From pre-work-out preparation straight into a full Zumba session, the message landed clearly. Occupational health is not only taught, it is practiced.

Smoothly moderated by Ms. Laila Quiding, the entire session moved with purpose and pace.

From booths to beats, the day showed one thing. Healthy workplaces are built through action.

Who said learning compensability can’t come with a little friendly competition?

The JBLMGH Department of Occupational and Environmental Medicine brought residents together for “WorkWise: The Occupational Health Challenge for Residents”, a dynamic session on understanding work-relatedness and compensability, conducted by the DOEM residents.

The program opened with a prayer led by Dr. Dino Bear, followed by a safety reminder from Dr. Axl Bagunas. Dr. Em Grace Makinano set the tone for a safe and meaningful session. Welcome remarks were delivered Dr. Jose Saporne, grounding the activity in purpose and direction. An overview of the Occupational Medicine Week was presented by Dr. Angelyn Custodia, highlighting the vision and activities lined up for the celebration.

From sharp discussions to high-energy OM Jeopardy led by Dr. Axl Bagunas, the session proved that Occupational Medicine can be both rigorous and engaging.

The activity closed with inspiring remarks from Dra. Ria Ramos, bringing the session full circle with a reminder of why the work matters.

Because sometimes, the best way to learn the work is to play through it.
