Why Does My Child Keep Getting Ear Infections?

Children have smaller and more horizontal Eustachian tubes, making it easier for fluid and bacteria to get trapped. This can lead to recurrent otitis media (middle ear infection), especially after colds or allergies.

Frequent infections may require ENT evaluation, possible hearing tests, or ear tube placement.

What Is Ear Barotrauma and How Can I Prevent It When Flying?

Ear barotrauma happens when pressure changes—like during takeoff or landing—damage the eardrum or middle ear.

Prevention Tips:
✅ Yawn, swallow, or chew gum during ascent/descent
✅ If with nasal congestion, you may use prescribed intranasal or oral decongestants.
✅ Try earplugs designed for flying

If you feel severe pain or hearing loss after a flight, consult your ENT.

Dizziness vs. Vertigo: What’s the Difference?

Many confuse dizziness and vertigo, but they’re not the same:

🔸 Dizziness: Feeling lightheaded, faint, or unsteady
🔸 Vertigo: A false sense that you or your surroundings are spinning

⚠️ Both can have different causes—from inner ear problems to low blood pressure or anxiety.

If symptoms persist, consult your ENT for proper evaluation.

Allergic rhinitis affects 18% Filipinos in urban areas to 22.1% in rural areas, causing symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion, and itchy eyes. As we transition into different seasons, it's essential to be aware of the allergens that may trigger these reactions.

Understanding your triggers—whether they be pollen, dust mites, or pet dander—can significantly improve your quality of life. Simple measures like avoiding exposures to allergens, keeping your home dry and clean and washing bedding regularly can prevent allergic rhinitis.

If you know someone who is struggling with allergic rhinitis, consider consulting a healthcare professional for personalized advice and treatment options.

Stop Using Cotton Buds to Clean Your Ears!

Using cotton buds may feel satisfying, but it can actually do more harm than good:
⚠️ Pushes wax deeper
⚠️ Increases risk of eardrum perforation
⚠️ Can cause infections or injury
👂 Your ears are self-cleaning—no need to poke inside!

If you have a wax problem, see an ENT specialist.

Protect your ears. Skip the cotton buds!
