In a proactive move to bolster dengue prevention and control measures across the island, community members of San Jose participated in a training workshop on the use of anti-dengue mosquito misting machines. The vital initiative, held today, May 16, 2025, at the San Jose Rural Health Unit, was spearheaded by the Local Government of San Jose through its Municipal Health Office (MHO).
The workshop was a collaborative effort, organized in partnership with the Romblon Provincial Health Office and the Provincial Department of Health (DOH) Office Romblon PDOHO Romblon Vector Borne Diseases Unit. This joint undertaking underscores the commitment of local and provincial health authorities to equip communities with the necessary skills and knowledge to combat dengue effectively.
The training aimed to empower community members, enabling them to respond more efficiently in providing health services specifically geared towards dengue prevention and control. By decentralizing the expertise in operating misting machines, the program seeks to create a rapid response capability at the grassroots level.
The workshop commenced with a series of informative lectures covering dengue fever, mosquito behavior, integrated vector management, and the proper handling, operation, and maintenance of the misting machines. Experts from the partner health offices facilitated these sessions, ensuring participants received accurate and up-to-date information.
Following the theoretical discussions, a hands-on demonstration and practicum were conducted at the San Jose Central Elementary School. The school, with the full support and assistance of its Principal, provided a suitable environment for the participants to practice using the misting machines under expert supervision. This practical component was crucial in building the confidence and competence of the community members.
Looking ahead, the San Jose Municipal Health Office envisions a broader impact for this program. The ultimate goal is to ensure that all stakeholders, from the barangay level down to the sitios, are proficient in the use of these anti-dengue mosquito misting machines. This widespread capability will be instrumental in creating a more resilient and prepared community against the threat of dengue outbreaks, especially now that the rainy season is upon us.
The successful conclusion of this training workshop marks a significant step forward in San Jose's ongoing efforts to protect its residents and enhance its public health services, particularly in the fight against vector-borne diseases.
