This is a repost reminder to stay vigilant against leptospirosis, especially during the rainy season. Leptospirosis is a serious bacterial infection that can be contracted through contact with water contaminated by the urine of infected animals, often during floods. To protect yourself, avoid wading through floodwaters whenever possible. If exposure is unavoidable, wear protective boots and clothing. Always clean and disinfect any wounds and seek medical attention if you experience symptoms like fever, body pain, or redness of the eyes. Do not self-medicate—take antibiotics only if prescribed by a healthcare professional. Let’s stay safe and informed. Prevention is always better than cure.

Post-flood alert: Leptospirosis is a risk. Stay out of floodwaters, cover any wounds, and wash hands thoroughly. Protect yourself and your family!

June is National No Smoking Month in the Philippines, let’s raise awareness that e-cigarettes are not the safe solution they claim to be. They are not proven to help people quit smoking and may even harm public health, especially our youth. Instead, let’s support effective, science-backed methods like counseling and approved therapies. Choose to quit the right way—protect your health, your family, and our future.

ON COVID-19 CASES IN SOUTHEAST ASIA
17 May 2025

The Department of Health is actively monitoring COVID-19 trends including the recently reported increases in specific areas of Southeast Asia. We are actively coordinating through established mechanisms like the ASEAN. This gives us verified information, boosting readiness even as we see no cause for alarm.

In the Philippines, as of May 3, 2025, we have observed an 87% decrease in cases and fatalities from 2024, with only 1,774 COVID-19 cases reported this year compared to 14,074 last year. The case fatality rate is only 1.13%. Recent trends also indicate a slight decrease in reported cases over the past three to four weeks. From 71 cases in the week of March 23 to April 5, 2025, it has decreased to 65 cases from April 6 to 19.

We are committed to keeping the public informed and will provide timely updates should the situation evolve. We encourage everyone to stay informed through official DOH channels, and continue practicing the same preventive measures that protect from other diseases:

âś…Wear face masks in healthcare facilities
âś…Stay home when sick
âś…Cover your mouth when coughing and sneezing
âś…Regularly wash hands with soap and water
âś…Seek early consultation for symptoms
