The Schools Division of Santa Rosa City through the SGOD-School Health Section successfully kickstarted the School-Based Feeding Program - Nutritious Food Products Implementation for School Year 2025-2026.

For this SY, there are 9,844 SBFP beneficiaries identified composed of All Kinder learners, and Severely Wasted and Wasted Grades 1-6 learners.

The School-Based Feeding Program is one of the major flagship program of the Oplan Kalusugan (OK) sa DepEd. It aims to rehabilitate undernourished learners to help them improve their nutritional status, increase school attendance, and improve academic performance.

On the second day of the training, the participants of the Basic Food Safety took their examination as part of their certification in the Level 2 Basic Food Safety Training. Likewise, DepEd Order No. 8, s. 2007 and DepEd Order 13, s. 2017 were discussed to orient/re-orient the School Canteen Managers on the pertinent points of canteen management and healthy food and beverage choices.

While on the other hall, the SBFP School Implementers presented their school inventories and workshop outputs. The discussions were facilitated by the SDO SBFP Technical Working Group to ensure that the school procurement process will be timely and smooth.

This activity aims to ensure that the School-Based Feeding Program for School Year 2025-2026 will be implemented according to the prescribed timeline; and to contribute to the learners' health and welfare through application of food safety practices in school canteens.

For the Basic Food Safety, the SGOD-School Health Section tapped the services of the Food Safety and Hygiene Academy of the Philippines (FoodSHAP) to train the School Canteen Managers and School Feeding Coordinators (Secondary).

Likewise, the SDO School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP) Technical Working Group (TWG) facilitated the SBFP Orientation-Workshop to update the SBFP School Implementers and ensure the timeliness in preparation of procurement documents.

The SGOD-School Health Section of SDO Santa Rosa City conducted the School Year-End Program Implementation Review (PIR) of School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP) and Other Oplan Kalusugan (OK) sa DepEd Programs for School Year 2024-2025 last April 28-30, 2025 at Skyworld Hotel, Baguio City.

The program aims to achieve the following: a) present and consolidate the school accomplishment reports for SBFP and other OK sa DepEd Programs; b) generate information on the impact of SBFP on the nutritional status of the beneficiaries; c) facilitate learning exchange of schools in their OK sa DepEd program implementation; d) address issues and concerns encountered during program implementation; e) determine the need for orientation of new program coordinators as basis for planning; f) present plans and updates for program implementation; and, g) recognize schools and school program implementers.

Participants of the program are School Heads, School-Based Feeding Program Coordinators, WASH in Schools (WinS) Coordinators, Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd Coordinators, SDO SBFP Technical Working Group, School Health Section Personnel and selected SDO Personnel.

All schools presented their Accomplishment Reports including their best practices and challenges during implementation. Likewise, the Program Focals also laid out their plans and updates in preparation for School Year 2025-2026.

Stay Cool & Safe: Prevent Heat Exhaustion in Schools

As temperatures rise, it's important to keep students and staff safe from heat exhaustion. Here are some simple tips to stay cool and healthy:

☀️ Hydrate – Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Avoid sugary and caffeinated drinks.
☀️ Dress Smart – Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing to stay cool.
☀️ Take Breaks – Encourage students to rest in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
☀️ Modify Activities – Reduce outdoor activities during peak heat hours.
☀️ Recognize Signs – Dizziness, excessive sweating, and nausea can signal heat exhaustion—seek help immediately.
