Let us talk about Vertical Dimension of Occlusion [VDO] and why the face becoming smaller than it used to.
When multiple teeth are lost the jaw bone will resorb[ decreased in height & width]..so goes the height of ones face.. The teeth are the pillars that support the jaw bones. It also strengthens, relaxes, and keep the facial muscles in healthy tones.. That is why those who lost many teeth looked older than their age because of sagging muscles in the nasolabial area..Increasing or opening the VDO also results to straighter facial profile by reduction of lower jaw protrusion.
