Majority of pregnant mamas experience nausea, but how do you know when "normal" morning sickness crosses the line into a medical emergency?

Here's what every expectant family needs to understand about pregnancy nausea:

NORMAL MORNING SICKNESS:
• Nausea with occasional vomiting (1-2 times daily)
• Symptoms improve by 12-16 weeks
• You can still keep some food and fluids down
• Weight remains stable or slight decrease
• You can function with daily activities

HYPEREMESIS GRAVIDARUM - MEDICAL EMERGENCY:
• Severe, persistent vomiting (multiple times daily)
• Cannot keep food or fluids down for 24+ hours
• Weight loss of 5% or more from pre-pregnancy weight
• Signs of dehydration: dizziness, dark urine, rapid heartbeat
• Unable to perform daily activities

WHEN TO CALL YOUR OB-GYN SPECIALIST IMMEDIATELY:
✅ Vomiting blood or bile
✅ Signs of severe dehydration
✅ Fainting or severe weakness
✅ Inability to keep fluids down for 24 hours
✅ Severe abdominal pain with vomiting
