The Midwifery Student Organization (MSO) successfully organized a meaningful and blessed donation drive at Barangay Barancuag, Tuao, Cagayan, with the purpose of extending relief and compassion to families devastated by Typhoon Uwan. The calamity brought severe flooding that washed out homes, destroyed livelihoods, and displaced entire households, leaving the community in urgent need of assistance. In response, the MSO prioritized the welfare of lactating mothers, pregnant women, under-five children and Patients with disability ensuring that their unique needs were met during this difficult time. What made the initiative even more remarkable was the spirit of solidarity and cooperation across different communities, as people came together to help one another regardless of background or affiliation.

The Student Body Organization (SBO), under the leadership of College of Health and Natural Sciences Governor Gideon B. Baswayan, collaborated by donating personal hygiene kits. Alongside the distribution of food, clothing, slippers, shoes, and other necessities, the MSO team offered free blood pressure monitoring and basic first aid services to those injured. To uplift the spirits of children affected by the disaster, the students facilitated fun yet educated games among children, bringing joy and smile on their face with hope amid hardship.
The organization extends its sincerest gratitude to all individuals and families who donated in the form of relief goods, food packs, clothes, slippers, and shoes, as their generosity provided comfort and essential support to those who lost so much in the flood. The success of the drive was made possible through the unity of organizations, families, and volunteers who dedicated their time and resources in repacking, distributing, and ensuring that aid reached those most in need.

This initiative not only provided immediate relief but also demonstrated the power of compassion, generosity, and community solidarity in times of crisis. By working hand in hand, the people of Barangay Barancuag, Tuao, Cagayan showed that even in the face of devastation, kindness and unity can bring comfort, restore hope, and make a lasting difference in rebuilding lives.

The Midwifery Student Organization (MSO) of Kalinga State University proudly celebrated National Midwifery Week on October 23, 2025, in front of the Birthing Clinic at the CHNS Building, embracing the theme “Midwives: Critical in Every Crisis.” This meaningful event served not only as a tribute to the unwavering dedication of midwives but also as a platform for midwifery students to deepen their understanding of the profession’s vital role in maternal and newborn care, especially during times of crisis. The celebration began with warm welcome remarks from Ma'am Christina Chomeg, MSO Co-adviser, who set the tone for a day filled with inspiration and unity. MSO President Dominador Simangan followed with a heartfelt rationale, honoring the compassion, expertise, and resilience of midwives in ensuring safe pregnancies and postnatal care.

College Dean Ma'am Marlita E. Quesada formally opened the program, encouraging students to remain focused on their goals and to uphold the highest standards of care within their communities. Mr. Ronald Bulwayan, Director for Student Development and Placement Services, delivered an empowering message, reminding students of the critical role midwives play during emergencies and urging them to stay committed to their noble calling. The keynote address was delivered by Ma'am Elenarose P. Tappa, RM, LMT, LPT, who passionately emphasized that “the future of maternal care is in your hands.” She highlighted the immense responsibility midwives carry, as every life begins in their care, and inspired students to keep their passion alive and their dedication unwavering.

Throughout the event, students engaged in various activities that not only fostered camaraderie but also reinforced their academic and professional growth. The MSO officers were commended for their active leadership and seamless coordination, which ensured the success of the celebration. The midwifery students, united in spirit and purpose, brought joy, laughter, and energy to the occasion, making it a truly memorable experience. As the day concluded, the event left a lasting impression filled with cherished memories, renewed motivation, and a deeper appreciation for the midwifery profession. It was a celebration that ignited hearts, strengthened bonds, and reaffirmed the students’ commitment to becoming compassionate and competent midwives in every crisis.

Hindi dapat mapasailalim ang mga pahayagang pangmag-aaral sa social media guidelines ng unibersidad

Sa panahon ng mabilis na pag-ikot ng impormasyon, sinisikap ng mga institusyon na maging maayos at responsable sa paggamit ng social media. Sa unang tingin, makatuwiran ang layunin ng Kalinga State University Information Office (UIO) nang magsagawa ito ng Dialogue on Social Media Guidelines, upang maging sentralisado at organisado ang pagpapakalat ng impormasyon.
Ngunit kailangang itanong, makabubuti ba ito kung ang presyo ay ang karapatan ng mga pahayagang pang-mag-aaral?

Ang pahayagang pangkampus ay hindi simpleng tagapagbalita lamang. Ito ay tinig ng mag-aaral — kritikal, mapanuri, at malayang nagsisiwalat ng katotohanan. Kung sila ay isasailalim sa parehong alituntunin ng mga opisyal na tanggapan ng unibersidad, hindi ba't unti-unti nitong pinuputol ang mismong ugat ng student press freedom?

Ayon sa Campus Journalism Act of 1991 (Republic Act No. 7079, Section 4), "ang mga publikasyong pangmag-aaral ay dapat pamunuan at pamahalaan ng mga mag-aaral, at ang pamunuan ng paaralan ay hindi dapat makialam sa mga patakarang editoryal nito."
Ito ang malinaw na pahayag ng batas, ang pamahayagang pangmag-aaral ay dapat manatiling malaya.
Hindi ito extension ng Information Office, kundi katuwang sa paghahatid ng katotohanan, kahit ito'y minsang salungat sa tono ng institusyon.

Maging ang Commission on Higher Education (CHED) ay matibay na tumatayo sa ganitong prinsipyo. Sa kanilang mga pahayag, iginigiit ng CHED na ang campus journalism ay instrumento ng academic freedom at platform para sa kritikal na pag-iisip at demokratikong diskurso. Ang pagtatali rito ng sobrang regulasyon ay hindi proteksyon, kundi pagkakahon.

Kung ang layunin ng mga alituntuning ito ay "upang maiwasan ang kalituhan," baka panahon nang itanong kung alin nga ba ang tunay na nakalilito, ang maraming tinig, o ang iisang boses na gustong pakinggan ng lahat?

Ang batas bilang pangunahing pundasyon ng mga pahayagang pangkampus, ang responsableng pamamahayag ay patuloy na iginagalang at mahigpit na isinasapuso. Kaya't sa halip na maglatag ng panibagong daluyan, dapat suportahan ang mga kabataang mamamahayag upang maging mapanuri, at makabayan sa paggamit ng social media. Ang kalayaan sa pamamahayag ay hindi kalaban ng disiplina; ito ang katuwang nito upang maipahayag ang katotohanan nang may pananagutan.

Bilang mga mag-aaral na mamamahayag, hindi natin maaatim na manahimik. Sa halip, muli nating ilahad ang ating paninindigan, na ang pamahayagang pang-mag-aaral ay mananatiling malaya, mapanuri, at tapat sa katotohanan. Sapagkat ang bawat isinusulat nating salita ay hindi lamang tinta sa papel, kundi tinig ng kabataang handang manindigan para sa kalayaan at katotohanan.
