𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | KSU Farmaceutica Society Hosts Generic Awareness Seminar

The Kalinga State University – College of Health and Natural Sciences (CHNS), through the KSU Farmaceutica Society, successfully held the Generic Awareness Seminar on September 19, 2025, at the College of Health and Natural Sciences (CHNS) Building, Audio Visual Room. The event was attended by students from all year levels of the BS Pharmacy program, along with participants from Midwifery, Public Health, and Biology programs, united under the theme: “DOSE OF TRUTH: Educating KSU-CHNS Students on Generic Drugs.”

The program began with a lively opening led by Fortlamy A. Talledo, Farmaceutica Society Vice President for Externals, followed by inspiring welcome remarks from Ma’am Emogine L. Silip, RPh, BS Pharmacy Program Chairperson. She warmly welcomed the participants, acknowledged the presence of distinguished guests and faculty members, and highlighted the importance of the seminar in ensuring accessible, affordable, and effective healthcare.

In his inspirational message, Sir Ronald B. Bulwayan, Director of Student Development Services and Placement Services (SDSPS), emphasized that “the seminar is both timely and essential,” encouraging students to actively engage throughout the discussions.

Meanwhile, Ma'am Marlita E. Quesada, PhD, Dean of the College of Health and Natural Sciences, underscored the vital role of students in advocacy, stating that “by becoming advocates for generic awareness, you can make healthcare more accessible and affordable for all.”

The highlight of the event was the lecture from the resource speaker, Sir Vic Valiant O. Laureta, RPh, CPh, MS Pharma, who delivered an insightful discussion on the safety, effectiveness, and affordability of generic medicines, as well as the empowerment of future healthcare professionals. He also challenged students and faculty members to become champions in promoting the use of generics.

Following the lecture, an open forum provided a platform for students to ask questions, raise concerns, and receive clarifications directly from Sir Laureta.

The seminar concluded with heartfelt closing remarks from Ma’am Kelly Kates A. Lupnacan, Adviser of Farmaceutica Society, who expressed gratitude to the students, faculty, and honored guests for making the event a meaningful and successful endeavor.

The KSU Farmaceutica Society extends its deepest thanks to everyone who took part in the Generic Awareness Seminar: Dose of Truth. Truly, it was a day of learning, advocacy, and empowerment that strengthens the vision of accessible healthcare for all.

Four BS Biology students from Kalinga State University proudly represented us at the Training Workshop on Nucleotide Sequence-Based Identification of Mushrooms held at Central Luzon State University last August 6-8, 2025.

For three days, they immersed themselves in hands-on sessions on DNA extraction, PCR amplification, gel electrophoresis, primer design, sequence assembly, BLAST analysis, and even submission of sequences to GenBank. From theory to practice, it was a deep dive into the power of molecular identification in mushroom research.

A massive thanks to Central Luzon State University for the opportunity, warm hospitality, and invaluable learning experience! 💚

𝗖𝗛𝗡𝗦 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀
Students from all programs of the College of Health and Natural Sciences (CHNS) filled the KSU Gymnasium on the afternoon of August 12, 2025, for this year’s college orientation, an event that brought together the CHNS community to meet its leaders, recognize its achievers, and strengthen its shared identity.

The program opened with the roll call of each course, answered by loud and proud cheers from the students. This was followed by a cheer and shout that kept the lively atmosphere inside the gym.

The College Dean, Dr. Marlita E. Quesada delivered the welcome remarks, warmly welcoming students and emphasizing the college’s commitment to their academic success and growth.

An inspirational message was then given by Sir Ronald B. Bulwayan, Director of the Office of Student Development Services and Placement Services (OSDSP), encouraging students to seize opportunities for personal growth, academic excellence, and active participation in university life.

After his talk, Dr. Marlita E. Quesada introduced the college chairpersons, faculty, and staff who will guide the students throughout the academic year. Officers of various student organizations were also presented to the audience, and academic achievers from all programs received recognition for their outstanding performance in the previous semester.

Student leaders took the pledge of commitment, vowing to uphold integrity and service in representing their fellow students. In her closing remarks, Dr. Divina Balocnit, PhD, acknowledged the unique role of each program — BS Biology as seekers of discovery, BS Public Health as guardians of community wellness, BS Pharmacy as innovators in health care, and Midwifery as the nurturing hands guiding life’s first moments.

The orientation concluded with a renewed sense of purpose, leaving students encouraged to embrace the year ahead with dedication and enthusiasm.
