The month of October is finally over. St. Louis Hospital Orthopaedic Institute and Advanced Wound Care Center is truly proud for its accomplishments. Being the only dedicated wound care center in the province of Sultan Kudarat, the department assures an updated knowledge and skills in wound management by attending the Practice and Upgrade Limb Salvage Skills (PULSES) Aesculap Academy Workshop. With our steadfast commitment to provide holistic and quality care to all patients, the department rendered free consultations, free bone screening, and peripheral bone densitometry to all patients during the celebration of the World Osteoporosis Awareness Day aside from the monthly first Friday free check ups. Finally, to empower all stakeholders with the correct facts in bone and joint health, we conducted a Lay Forum as part of information dissemination to the community.

In line with the Osteoporosis Awareness Month, St. Louis Hospital held its annual lay forum on Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis yesterday October 20, 2023 at the SLH Outpatient Department Waiting Area. The forum featured a heartfelt opening message from Leslie Draug, RN, OPD Head, followed by a lecture from Dr. Adrian Amiel Burgos an Orthopaedic Surgeon and Wound Care Specialist.

This event not only aimed to educate but also to create massive empowerment in your life and take charge of your bone health with confidence.

In accordance with the celebration of WORLD OSTEOPOROSIS PREVENTION MONTH, St. Louis Hospital Orthopaedic Institute and Advance Wound Care Clinic would like to invite all male and female 40 years old and above, to its Free Bone Densitometry and Osteoporosis Screening this coming Friday October 20, 2023 at 8:00 in the morning.

Ang frozen shoulder ay naglalarawan ng kawalan ng kakayahang maigalaw ang balikat dahil sa ito ay naninigas at masakit ikilos. Nagkakaroon ng problema at pagsakit ng balikat dulot ng frozen shoulder kapag may pamamaga at ang nakapalibot na shoulder capsule ay kumapal at tumigas. Nadedevelop ang tinatawag na adhesions o paninigas ng mga bands of tissue at nababawasan ang dami ng synovial fluid, dahilan para lumiliit ang espasyo sa pagitan ng joint na lalong nagpapahirap sa paggalaw nito.

Diabetic foot ulcers are among the most common complications of patients who have diabetes mellitus which is not well controlled. It is usually the result of poor glycemic control, underlying neuropathy, peripheral vascular disease, or poor foot care. It is also one of the common cause for osteomyelitis of the foot and amputation of lower extremities. These ulcers are usually in the areas of the foot which encounters repetitive trauma and pressure sensations.

Procedure: Fasciotomy of bilateral forearm with brachial artery exposure and Debridement of both feet and hips.

Fasciotomy is used to release pressure that is caused by swollen muscles from the burn. You may be less likely to have more damage to your nerves, tissue, or organs.

It is also an emergency procedure used to treat acute compartment syndrome. Compartment syndrome is when the pressure builds up in a non-compliant osseofascial compartment and causes ischemia leading to muscle and nerve necrosis.

This surgery is done by our orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Adrian Amiel Burgos, a doctor with specialized training in treating bone, joint, and muscle problems. And a professional doctor who has specialized in the care and treatment of acute, chronic and non-healing wounds.😊

The femur is the large bone in the upper part of your leg. Different kinds of trauma can damage this bone, causing it to fracture into 2 or more pieces. This might happen to the part of the femur near your knee, near the middle of the femur, or in the part of the femur that forms part of your hip joint. In certain types of femur fractures, your femur has broken, but its pieces still line up correctly. In other types of fractures (displaced fractures), the trauma moves the bone fragments out of alignment.

Open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) is a surgical procedure to treat a displaced fracture of the femoral shaft. The femur, or thigh bone, is a large and strong bone so it requires a substantial amount of force to fracture. It is surrounded by muscle and has a good blood supply so when disrupted, can result in significant bleeding.

ORIF surgery of the femoral shaft involves placing a nail through the bone. If the fracture is unstable the nail is anchored by locking screws.
