Ang glaucoma ay isang sakit na nakakasira sa optic nerve ng iyong mata. Karaniwan itong nangyayari kapag naipon ang likido sa harap na bahagi ng iyong mata. Ang sobrang likidong iyon ay nagpapataas ng presyon sa iyong mata, na nakakasira sa optic nerve.

Ang ilang mga tao ay may mas mataas kaysa sa normal na panganib na magkaroon ng glaucoma. Kabilang dito ang mga taong:

• ay higit sa edad na 40
• magkaroon ng mga miyembro ng pamilya na may glaucoma
• ay African, Hispanic, o Asian heritage
• may mataas na presyon ng mata
• ay farsighted o nearsighted
• nagkaroon ng sugat sa mata
• gumamit ng pangmatagalang steroid na gamot
• may mga cornea na manipis sa gitna
• magkaroon ng pagnipis ng optic nerve
• may diabetes, migraines, high blood pressure, mahinang sirkulasyon ng dugo o iba pang problema sa kalusugan na nakakaapekto sa buong katawan.

Monday is Glaucoma Day! 😊

What is glaucoma?

Glaucoma is a chronic, progressive eye disease caused by damage to the optic nerve, which leads to visual field loss. One of the major risk factors is eye pressure. An abnormality in the eye’s drainage system can cause fluid to build up, leading to excessive pressure that causes damage to the optic nerve. The optic nerve is a bundle of nerve fibers that connects the retina with the brain. This damage leads to loss of eyesight.
