Is chancy talking to himself while playing? No , he is not.
According to Lev Vygotzky, a noted Russian child psychologist, a child while seemingly in a monoloque is not engaged in a private speech but in a social speech. He is, actually, talking to an imaginary playmate.
A private speech is a transition from a social speech ( social conversation) , to the inner speech. This phenomenon is very significant in the cognitive development of a child.
