On the 28th of January 2026, the Department of General Surgery, Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center, formally recognized excellence, leadership, and service during the Awarding of the Scalpel, Certificates of Commendation Ceremony, and welcoming of our reservists.

The Golden Scalpel Award was conferred upon Dr. Alec Cristi M. Mende, outgoing Chief Resident, in recognition of exemplary leadership and sustained academic distinction through her years of surgical training.

The Silver Scalpel Award was awarded to Dr. Mc Kevin Poe E. Delloro and Dr. Bercyl B. Llanita, honoring the successful completion of the rigorous requirements for eligibility to take the diplomate examination; signifying readiness for independent surgical practice.

The department likewise bestowed Certificates of Commendation upon Dr. Ben Dominic S. Bance, Dr. Winkle Jones P. Alkuino, and Dr. Syrum Joseph M. Quinto, recognizing remarkable accomplishments, exceptional performance, and meaningful contributions that strengthened both academic standards and departmental efficiency.

Today, we honor excellence earned, service rendered, and futures forged in steadfast commitment to the craft of surgery; upholding the values that define the Department of General Surgery at Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center.
