Hold also the mother, not just the baby. To all my postpartum mothers out there, you are doing a great job! β€οΈ
Hold the mother, not the baby.β£β£

Because the babyβs being taken care ofββ£β£
fed, snuggled, and given all the love in the worldββ£β£
by not only the mother,β£β£
but her partner, grandparents, siblings, cousins, and friends.β£β£
β£β£
But the mother,β£β£
may have gaps in her mind from lack of sleep,β£β£
may be mechanical in her motions as sheβs healing,β£β£
may feel more like a mess than a mother,β£β£
may be sitting in bed, crying, feeling overwhelmed in her body and life,β£β£
may be full of mom guilt because in her mind, "she's not good enough,"β£β£
and sheβs bleeding, wincing in pain, swollen and emotional.β£β£

And the motherβs that baby's whole world and needs to be seen, so she doesn't disappear into that postpartum fog.β£β£

So, hold the mother, not the baby.β£β£

A mother agrees that her baby matters more.β£β£
But sheβs hurting, while sheβs the person behind the baby,β£β£
in the background, making it all happen:β£β£
feeding her baby at all hours,β£β£
snuggling her baby close to comfort newborn cries,β£β£
and being that babyβs everything.β£β£

So, itβs the mother who needs your love.β£β£

And a mother will remember who held her up.β£β£

So instead of βIβm coming to see the baby,ββ£β£
try saying, βIβm coming to see you π’π―π₯ meet the baby, too.ββ£β£

Because the mother needs to be held more.β£β£
