Patient’s story:

This is Ivan, 21/M, who suffered severe traumatic brain injury last year from motorcycle vehicular crash. At the time of injury, he’s almost been lost. But due to fast referral and timely surgery due to large hematoma in the brain, he was given another chance to life.

His recovery from injuries is a testament of God’s mercy and love. Along with his supportive family, he’s now able to talk (limited), feed (independently), and sit with support.

Let us continue to pray for Ivan’s recovery.

Case point:

60/M came in due to headache, confusion and left right sided weakness. On MRI, a 7x8.5x7.5cm extra-axial lesion at the left parietal convexity was noted.
Patient was scheduled for elective surgery and the tumor was removed enbloc. Patient was discharged improved on the 5th day post op and biopsy revealed a meningothelial meningioma, WHO grade 1

Meningioma is the most common type of benign primary brain tumor. It is extra-axial and symptoms depend on the location in the brain. Gross total resection is curative for low grade lesions ( WHO grades 1-2). WHO Grades 3-4 meningiomas are aggressive lesion that need further treatment aside from tumor resection.

Spinal nerve sheath tumors are the most common intradural extramedullary lesions. These tumors are benign and have excellent prognosis. Surgical excision is the mainstay of treatment.

12/F patient came in with complaints of leg pain and heaviness especially with prolonged standing and walking. Lumbosacral MRI shows and intradural extramedullary mass between L1-L2. Patient underwent L1- L2 hemilaminectomy,gross total excision of tumor.

Patient was discharged improved after 3 days post op.

Spinal meningiomas are benign tumors of the spine that are mostly located in the intradural extramedullary space. They usually account for 25% of all spinal cord tumors.

Case:
A 58/F came in due to lower extremity weakness and abnormal gait. On MRI, a lesion is noted at the T8 vertebra with cord compression and cord edema. Patient underwent laminectomy t8 level, gross total excision of tumor. Patient improved postoperatively and was discharged after day 3 of surgery.
