This 2 year-old male came in due to a visible mass noted at the bridge of the nose. Further work up revealed a nasoethmoidal encephalocoele (NEM); he underwent repair of NEM where we removed the herniated brain and covered the defect at the skull base. After 2 weeks , this little cute boy followed up with unremarkable recovery.
Nasoethmoidal encephalocoele is a rare congenital defect where a portion of brain herniate through a defect in the skull. It is usually seen as a visible mass at the bridge of the nose. Surgical treatment includes removal of the herniated brain and covering the skull defect.
