THE AMAZING POWER OF GOD’S PROVISION
(Long post ahead…yet still protecting the patient’s privacy)
The culmination of this pregnancy occurred a week ago, hours before my trip to Manila.
It all started 9 months ago, when I first met Mommy for her prenatal check-up. Going into her 2nd trimester, they were already in search of a DNA lab that could test a certain gene for their baby. I also did some research and got in touch with some private labs, but none of them had that particular gene test available.
Into their 3rd trimester, they were able to coordinate with the Philippine Genome Center in UP, but I think the problem was how to transport the specimen, if we do send it out to the UP Lab in Diliman.
It was Divine intervention, that weeks before she got to term, their hospital in Canada referred us to an ophthalmologist (and a geneticist at that) who was working in Bohol!!! (Grabe binigay na ni Lord lahat ng kailangan namin in 1 package☺️🙏🏻 pinathrilling lang sa ka last minute). God truly makes a way, as long as you believe! Thank you to Dr. Torrefranca, a super published MD, yet a very humble person, siya pa ang laging nagvivisit sakin sa clinic.
The next dilemma was if Dr. Torrefranca and I will both be present upon delivery. He had prior commitments abroad in the coming weeks, and I will also be out of town for a few days.
A week before my trip, Mommy was far from active labor. I told them I hope I get to deliver their baby when I come back. Lo and behold! the night before my trip, she called that her waterbag broke. I went straight to the hospital and met with Dr. Torrefranca, who just arrived from the airport as well 😅 (galing mo talaga Lord nandito kami pareho!) We were carefully monitoring Mommy and her baby.
The last hurdle was the actual delivery…being the conservative person that I am, I still hoped for a normal delivery…I thought I was going to endorse Mommy to a colleague. But after almost half a day of augmenting labor, signs for immediate delivery arose…I guess gusto talaga ni baby na ako ang maglabas sa kanya!! Answered prayer for both parents that Dr. Torrefranca and I are both present during delivery. ☺️🙏🏻❤️
Borrowing Dr. Torrefranca’s words in his IG:
“Success! We've done the first ever in Bohol (probably the first in Visayas too) - postnatal cord blood DNA targeted panel testing! Salamat ng marami sa lahat ng bumubuo sa team, kasama na ang mga medical technologists and laboratory personnel for the smooth flow! Thank you, Dr. Cabagnot! Ang swabe ng tandem natin! Team Bohol, this is just the beginning and we are all moving forward!”
Thank you also to the surgical team: fellow doctors, nurses and staff present that day!
😊🙏🏻❤️
