OK TEDI MINING LIMITED DONATES MEDICAL EQUIPMENT TO GEREHU GENERAL HOSPITAL TB CLINIC

Port Moresby, 31st March 2026 – The National Capital District Provincial Health Authority (NCDPHA) has welcomed the generous donation of medical equipment to the Gerehu General Hospital (GGH) TB Clinic by Ok Tedi Mining Limited (OTML).

This contribution follows a request from a Health Extension Officer within the clinic for essential diagnostic, safety, and office equipment to strengthen TB services.

During the official handover, OTML Health Services Manager, Mr. Raymond Singamis, commended the TB staff for their dedication to serving patients from NCD and neighbouring provinces, including Western Province. He reaffirmed OTML’s shared commitment to the fight against TB in Papua New Guinea.

Acting Hospital Manager, Dr. Esther Gabut, expressed gratitude on behalf of GGH and NCDPHA, acknowledging OTML Managing Director Mr. Kedi Ilimbit, Mr. Singamis, and the OTML team for their timely support. She emphasized that the donation will directly enhance patient care and improve treatment outcomes.

The Officer-in-Charge, Sr. Patel Kepo, and HEO Mary Bino also extended their appreciation on behalf of the clinic staff.

Inspiring addresses from health leaders, advocates, and role models highlighted the critical role of women in shaping healthier, stronger, and more inclusive societies.

Miss Bird of Paradise, Iampela Popen, shared her perspective as a youth advocate:

“NCDPHA HOSTS FIRST QUARTERLY DISTRICT HEALTH SERVICES MEETING AND DISTRIBUTES NATIONAL IPC GUIDELINES 2025”

The National Capital District Provincial Health Authority (NCDPHA) convened its first quarterly District Health Services meeting with Clinic Managers and Heads of Departments from Pathology, Radiology, and Pediatrics.

The 2025 Clinical Review presented by Dr. Niltainde and Sr. Oliver Ume followed by discussions on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and the new Reporting Template. Other key updates included the rollout of the National Health Information System (NHIS) for facilities.

The highlight of the program was the official distribution and advocacy of the first-ever PNG National Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Guidelines 2025 to all Clinic Managers and Heads of Departments. This landmark document is a requirement under the National Health Service Standards for every health facility.

This IPC Guidelines were spearheaded by NCDPHA IPC Manager Rueben Kingal, with support from the National Department of Health (NDoH), World Health Organization (WHO), University of Newcastle, GROAN, HSSDP (NDoH), and IPC officers from Provincial Health Authorities (PHAs).

NCDPHA is the first Provincial Health Authority in Papua New Guinea to receive the newly released National IPC Guidelines 2025, ahead of other 23 PHAs. This milestone strengthens health standards through IPC programs in urban health facilities and Gerehu General Hospital.

Dr. Robin Oge, CEO of NCDPHA, commended the achievement:

“The distribution of the National IPC Guidelines 2025 is a historic step for NCDPHA and for Papua New Guinea. Being the first PHA to receive and implement these guidelines reflects our commitment to raising health standards, protecting patients, and empowering our frontline staff. “NCDPHA COMMEMORATES WORLD TB DAY AT GEREHU GENERAL HOSPITAL WITH PARTNERS AND GOVERNMENT REPRESENTATIVES”

The National Capital District Provincial Health Authority (NCDPHA) today commemorated World Tuberculosis (TB) Day at Gerehu General Hospital, alongside partners and government representatives from World Vision, the National TB Program, the National Department of Health, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

The event highlighted the collective commitment to tackling TB in Papua New Guinea and marked the official launch of the SSI TB Program. This innovative program introduces the use of an AI-powered portable X-ray machine to detect TB at its earliest stages. By distinguishing TB patients from healthy individuals quickly and accurately, the technology aims to contain the spread of TB and strengthen public health outcomes in the National Capital District.

The Chief Eexcutive Officer for NCDPHA Dr. Robin Oge, underscored the importance of innovation and collaboration:

“The fight against TB requires both strong partnerships and modern solutions. The launch of the SSI TB Program, with its AI-powered portable X-ray machine, represents a breakthrough in early detection and prevention. The Tuberculosis Program Unit at the National Capital District Provincial Health Authority (NCDPHA) has collaborated with the National Capital District Commission (NCDC) and carried out TB awareness sessions at selected marketplaces, schools, and workplaces across Port Moresby.

The key highlights of the awareness included:

*TB signs and symptoms
*TB prevention and treatment
*TB transmission processes
*TB patient care

This year’s theme, “Yes! We Can End TB: Led by Nations, Powered by People,” emphasizes a bold call to action and message of hope, affirming that ending Tuberculosis is achievable even amid global challenges. The theme highlights the importance of country leadership, community engagement, and multisectoral collaboration, stressing that decisive action, strategic investment, and rapid implementation of WHO recommendations are essential to turn the tide on the TB epidemic.

The Chief Executive Officer for NCDPHA Dr. Robin Oge stated: “Tuberculosis remains one of the most pressing public health challenges in our city. Through these awareness programs, we are empowering our communities with knowledge and encouraging early testing and treatment. Ending TB is possible if we work together with determination and unity.”

TB Program Manager Israel Naraman added: “Our focus is on reaching young people and community hubs where TB transmission risks are highest. “HEALTH FACILITY STAFF UNDERGOES TRAINING ON EXPANDED PROGRAM ON IMMUNIZATION (EPI)”

The Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) under Family Health Services in the National Capital District Provincial Health Authority (NCDPHA) has successfully conducted a one-day refresher training for health facility staff.

A total of 50 participants from 25 health facilities—including Urban Clinics, Institutional Clinics, and Private Health Facilities—took part in the training held at Granville Hotel.

The training aimed to ensure all staff are equipped with updated knowledge on the National Immunization Schedule and recommended practices.

The highlights of the refresher training included:

*Routine Vaccines and their importance
*Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPDs)
*National Immunization Schedule
*Cold Chain Management at the Health Facility

Speaking at the training, Dr. Amos Lano, Director for Public Health Services, emphasized the importance of strengthening frontline capacity:

“Immunization remains one of the most effective public health interventions. By refreshing our staff’s knowledge and skills, we are ensuring that every child and family in Port Moresby has access to safe and timely vaccines.”

“METOREIA URBAN HEALTH CENTRE RECEIVES K120,000 WORTH OF MEDICAL SUPPLIES FROM BANK OF SOUTH PACIFIC (BSP)”

In a demonstration of community service and shared responsibility, Bank South Pacific (BSP) officially handed over a substantial donation of medical supplies, valued at K120,000, to the Metoreia Urban Health Centre in the National Capital District. This initiative is part of BSP’s 2025 community project program.

The donation was made possible through the combined efforts of four BSP Business Units, each contributing K30,000 from their community project funds to procure a wide range of medical essentials. These supplies include vital consumables such as needles and disposable syringes, critical emergency pharmaceuticals, and specialized equipment for dental, optometry, and maternity wards. From basic consumables to labour ward kits, the donation strengthens the clinic’s capacity to deliver essential healthcare services to the community.

BSP Group General Manager for Corporate Affairs & Community, Ms. Hari Rabura, emphasized that the bank recognizes the significant hurdles many faces in accessing reliable, affordable healthcare. By strengthening the clinic’s inventory, BSP is helping to ensure that these vital services remain within reach for the many residents who depend on the Metoreia Clinic.

Clinic Manager for Metoreia Urban Health Centre, HEO Regina Wuri, also acknowledged the impact of the donation:

“These supplies will greatly enhance our ability to serve patients more effectively, especially in critical areas such as maternity, dental, and emergency care. **Community Support in Action**

Gerehu General Hospital today received a generous donation valued at K70,000, presented by Alibi and the Jmart Helping Hand Foundation, with contributions from Jmart Ltd and additional support from J&Z Limited.

This donation includes K50,000 worth of food supplies from Jmart Ltd, along with gift packs distributed to patients in the Adult Ward, Children’s Ward, Antenatal Clinic, and Outpatient Department staff.

The initiative aims to support the wellbeing of frontline health workers and bring comfort to patients receiving care at the hospital.
