Ang DCIS ay isang maagang uri ng breast cancer. Sa maraming kaso, bukol lang ang kailangang alisin—hindi ang buong breast. Depende pa rin ito sa bawat pasyente, kaya magpatingin sa espesyalista. 💗

Hindi lahat ng bukol sa suso ay cancer. Marami dito ay fibroadenoma, na isang benign na bukol.

Sa ultrasound, madalas itong nakalalagay bilang BI-RADS 3 (probably benign) — ibig sabihin mas mababa sa 2% ang tsansa na cancer, kaya follow-up ultrasound ang karaniwang rekomendasyon.

Kapag ang bukol ay walang pagbabago sa loob ng 1–2 taon, maaari na itong ma-reclassify bilang BI-RADS 2 (benign).

Minsan may mga BI-RADS 3 na kalaunan ay lumalabas na cancer. Dahil ang breast ultrasound ay operator-dependent, mahalaga ang tamang BI-RADS criteria, maayos na follow-up, at pagtutugma ng clinical exam, imaging, at biopsy results.

Kapag hindi tugma ang imaging at biopsy findings, ito ay tinatawag na radiologic-pathologic discordance, at kailangan itong ma-evaluate nang maayos.

✔️ Ang susi ay quality imaging, tamang interpretation, at regular follow-up.

Isang malaking pag-aaral na inilathala sa JAMA Network Open ang tumingin sa mahigit 2.1 milyong pasyenteng may breast cancer.
Ayon sa study, ang mga pasyenteng alternative medicine lamang ang ginamit ay may mas mataas na risk of death kumpara sa mga tumanggap ng standard medical treatment.
Ang post na ito ay pagbabahagi ng impormasyon mula sa published scientific research.

Madalas masisi ang hormones tulad ng HRT at birth control pills sa breast cancer. Pero ayon sa mga pag-aaral, mas kumplikado ang relasyon nito. May ilang hormone therapy na walang makitang pagtaas ng risk, habang ang iba ay may maliit na epekto depende sa uri at tagal ng paggamit. Mahalaga ang tamang gabay ng doktor at regular na breast screening. 💗

Hindi lahat ng mammogram ay pare-pareho.

Ang traditional 2D mammogram ay nakakakita ng humigit-kumulang 75–85% ng breast cancers, pero minsan natatakpan ang cancer ng overlapping breast tissue—lalo na kung dense ang breasts.

Ang 3D mammogram (tomosynthesis) ay mas advanced. Nakakadetect ito ng 20–40% more cancers at nakakabawas ng 15–30% na unnecessary recalls dahil nakikita ng radiologist ang breast layer by layer.

Mahalaga rin ang breast density. Sa very dense breasts, maaaring bumaba sa 50–60% ang detection ng mammogram, kaya minsan nirerekomenda ang ultrasound o MRI bilang dagdag na screening.

Ang goal natin: maagang matuklasan ang breast cancer para mas madaling gamutin.

Lumaki tayo sa kulturang madalas sabihin:

“Mas bagay sa babae ang mag-alaga ng pamilya sa bahay."
“Ang surgery, trabaho ng lalaki.”

Minsan biro lang.
Minsan advice ng matatanda.
Minsan assumption ng lipunan.

Pero sa maraming ospital ngayon, may mga babaeng pumapasok sa operating room araw-araw — nagdedesisyon, nagliligtas ng buhay, at namumuno sa surgical teams.

At pagkatapos ng mahabang operasyon? Uuwi rin sila — bilang anak, bilang asawa, bilang nanay, bilang bahagi ng pamilya nila.

Ang katotohanan: ang babae hindi lang sa isang lugar.

Pwede tayong mag-nurture ng pamilya, mag-lead sa operating room, at pursue ang karera na pinapangarap natin.

At balang araw, hindi na nakakagulat sa lahat ang marinig:
“Yung surgeon ko? Babae sya. ”
