Are you currently a smoker and is taking vitamin A pills, particularly high dose beta carotene?

Two randomized clinical trials on beta carotene supplementation among smokers was supposed to study the benefit of beta carotene supplement as an antioxidant to reduce cancer risk. Unfortunately, the two separate studies demonstrated a moderate increase in incidence of death from lung cancer instead.

While beta carotene supplements have been found to demonstrate harm, consuming foods naturally high in beta carotene like carrots do not produce the same effect.

If you are regularly eating green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, carrots or eggs then you really don't need these supplements. There are only certain medical indications for supplementation of vitamin A.
